Help with nits- even I can’t get rid!

13yo DD got nits a few months ago and I think we successfully got rid (I treated myself too as I started feeling itchy and even if it was psychosomatic I thought I’d better be safe!). Then at the start of the hols I noticed a few eggs in her hair. I’d been feeling itchy then too and I asked her to check me and she said she could see eggs. So we both treated ourselves and combed with a bit wit comb too (although mine was probably less well combed as I have very tangly curly hair). Today I have noticed another egg on her! We are
going to treat us both again but do you have any failsafe methods??

Being honest, I’m pretty sure DD caught them this time from the hairdressers. She hadn’t had them about 4 months ago and we treated (successfully I thought) and didn’t mention anything. However about a week after her hair cut I found eggs in her hair. It’s been summer hols and she hadn’t been with friends in that time

I think it was Hedrin we used each time and I left it in for about half an hour whilst combed dd (I hadn’t spotted you are supposed to wash it out and then comb but I must have defo dehydrated those eggs in that time!). I only found three actual insects through combing (annd I was defo very thorough) and I couldn’t really see any eggs when we were finished but her hair was still wet. My ointment must have been on for 40 mins but I knew I would struggle with the combing.

I also soaked our hairbrushes in bleach solution in case anything was living on them!

it’s only today I have spotted more eggs on her.

mabe @fruitpastilleis right and it is only old dehydrated eggs I am seeing this week though. I only saw a couple on her. I don’t know how to know if they are dead or not

This year is the first time DD has ever had nits. When she was in primary we used the spray on conditioner as a preventative every day before school. I thought secondary would be risk free but apparently not!

Hedrin Once does work but you must do a second treatment 7 days later to catch any that survived.

I usually do the hedrin thing, wash it out then, when hair is nearly dry use straigheners through full head. Repeat 7 days later and that usually sorts it.

Thankfully through 3 dc we've only had nits maybe 4 times total
