Am I the biggest wimp on MN?

I wanted to get my hair blow-dried as I am heading away for the weekend, and a professional blow-dry looks better and lasts longer for me.
Anyway my usual hairdresser (one-woman-band) wasn't available so I booked into a large chain salon.
All was good, nice staff, massage chairs etc... the trainee who washed my hair was great, and the hairdresser who did the blow-dry was nice too, but..... she was so busy chatting to the people next to us (2 staff; one teaching the other how to cut) that she burned my scalp with the hairdryer 😒
I could feel the it getting hotter and hotter on my scalp but thought oh its not so bad, my usual hairdresser must be very gentle.
But all of a sudden it became unbearable, I yelped and jumped a little. Instead of saying ouch that hurt, I just said Oh sorry, that's a bit hot. Sorry!
Why, oh why, did I apologise when she burnt my scalp? I'm a wimp!! But she did pay a bit more attention then.

I cam on to say no, but after reading this, sorry, it's a yes. You let someone burn you rather than tell them to pay attention to what they were doing!

Classic middle-aged-woman reflex — someone could stab me in the foot and I’d still apologise for my foot getting in the way of their knife (lighthearted!).
In fairness I did let her know & she did pay attention from then on - but it's the ridiculousness of me apologising as an instinctive response.

I having been going to my hairdresser for about 30 years. I blow dry my hair better, because I do it every day.

Lucky you @PaddlingSwan.
I have a lot of hair, it takes me at least an hour to blow-dry it straight, and even then it won't be great (even with straighteners).
I like to get a blow-dry when I'm going away for the weekend. My hair doesn't need to be washed every day, and a professional blow-dry will last the weekend.

I would do exactly the same! I would also tip heavily, say how wonderful the experience was, and then never go back again 😆

Surely you didn’t apologise because you were actually sorry, it’s more figure of speech for you. My MIL does it all the time. Someone could ram a trolley in to her and she’d be the one saying sorry.

Oh I completely get you @VashtaNerada!

Luckily for me the stylist left me with the receptionist to pay and they didn't take tips on a card, only in cash.... so I scuttled out the door with my lovely straight hair & (slightly!) torched scalp without tipping 😆
