DS has booked his bike on the train. Got his bike ticket which he puts in a coach and theres a seat np as well BUT it is in a different coach to his reserved seats.

Will it be safe...Obvs he'll take a hefty bike lock with him

Is it with Avanti? They will load the bike on to the bike carriage then you walk through in to the carriage and there are normally a couple of seats reserved for cyclists right at the back. No need for bike locks. I do it every day for work!

just make sure the train manager knows you are there and where you are getting off then I exit the train at the destination and stand outside the bike entrance until they come and get the bike off.

On the last couple of trains I have caught, there was a bike storage cabin at the end of the carriage in a space where you might expect to find the loo. I imagine once the bike is inside you close the door for the duration of the journey. There would be no capacity to sit/ stand along side it.

DH takes his bike on LNEr, the bikes are in a separate "room" on the train.

Never used a lock, never stayed with it, always been fine
