Vinted purchase - too good to be true?

I’ve just ordered an All Saint leather jacket “only worn a few times” from vinted. £40.

Too good to be true right? I’ve added buyer protection so that should protect me if it turns out to be a pile of poo won’t it?

I’ve been after an All Saints leather jacket for ages. Nearly bought a new one in a similar style for £300 earlier this year so absolutely couldn’t resist.

The seller has no reviews yet which is worrying. Am I a fool?

I’d be very wary of buying from a seller with no reviews, especially if you think the item is unusually cheap/good value. Lots of scammers (or their bot) copy a genuine photos/ads but have a super low price to lure people in. It’s a persistent problem on Vinted. Easiest way to spot them is they have no feedback and the price is too good to be true.

Great.

What’s the scam? They don’t send the item? Or send something different?
Surely I can claiming buyer protection if it doesn’t arrive?

Does the seller have other items for sale? If so study the photos. If they're taken in the same location that's a good sign. Different backgrounds can indicate photos grabbed from other sellers.

Google lens on the image can also find grabbed images.

Usernames made of random letters and numbers can indicate a scammer.

Fingers crossed you got a real bargain
!

FlowersFawb · 05/08/2025 18:55

It just depends on the seller I have nearly 600 5 star reviews other people will wrap an iyem in a sainsburys bag lol...you really can't tell.

Make sure they have good reviews, are selling other decent items. Have included lots of pics and sizing info.

It could just be someone clearing their wardrobe and selling cheap.

doglover90 · 05/08/2025 18:55

Buyer protection doesn't fully protect you as the buyer - if it's not as described, you can force a return (vinted will most likely side with you) but you'd still need to pay return fees. If it doesn't arrive you can also get refunded. Take a video of you opening the package.

They are selling a whistles jacket also - same wardrobe it has been hung on! That’s promising right?

The seller has messaged me saying s/he will post tomorrow.

sounds like it will be ok then. people sometimes offer a super bargain first just so they can get their first 5 start review.

WTDress · 05/08/2025 19:02

Fingers crossed. I love this jacket.

I wouldn't automatically assume it's a scam. People have to start somewhere to start getting reviews. I've recently started selling on Vinted and amongst my sales I've sold an All Saints leather jacket and a Maje leather jacket for £40 each. Also, don't forget that the seller won't receive any funds until you confirm that everything is ok.

AlicePottery · 05/08/2025 19:33

I've had some amazing bargains on vinted, I got DD a pair of barely worn, Made in England, high DMs (seriously they had probably only been worn one or twice) for 50€, I was convinced they'd be fake but they weren't. Similar for DH, I got him a leather jacket in perfect condition for 10€ (retail price of over 200€, I checked). On the other hand I've sent a fair few things back as they were fake but it's always been the buyer who paid for the returns.

You have a relatively small window to report an issue. It may well be fake at that price. You may be lucky and it isn't. If I were you I'd cancel the sale before they send it. You need to be able to clearly show in, I think 5 photos, that you think it's counterfeit (if that's the issue) and your report will go to the seller, not Vinted. They may tell you to pay for the return, which they can do. They can mess you around by not collecting the returned item and while they won't get paid, it will take another month for you to get your money back.

Cherrysoup · 05/08/2025 19:37

What do you mean you added buyer protection? You don’t have a choice on Vinted, do you?

I bought a biker jacket on Vinted, all armour intact, no damage. Looked up how much they are new and they’re over £100. It was printing, got it for a tenner. Equally, bought an Italian leather jacket, paid £20, no idea how much it would have been new, totally fine.

I’ve bought a few things on there for amazing prices, so hopefully your item will be brilliant!

Nothankyov · 05/08/2025 19:38

@WTDress i have sold a genuine Reiss leather jacket worn once for £50. It’s not necessarily a scam. Just an item I didn’t need anymore and want to get rid off. Hopefully the same happens for you.

Oh I don’t know, it showed separately so I assumed optional but kept it on.

Thanks. Hopefully all ok.

it might be ok, i once got a michael kors coat for £20

Thanksman · 05/08/2025 19:55

I’ve never been disappointed with the stuff I’ve had from Vinted, all at a relatively low price too. Hope all is good OP,

madaboutpurple · 05/08/2025 20:04

I have bought a fair amount of clothes and shoes from Vinted and it has been really worthwhile. I hope you are happy when your jacket arrives.

LittleBobbyDazzler · 05/08/2025 20:16

I'd recommend taking a photo of the parcel when you collect / have it delivered and then videoing opening the parcel up and inspecting the item. Despite what people say vinted don't always side with the buyer and you do open it and it's damaged / dirty / fake you at least have a little but if evidence it came that way.

If it is any of those things you'll have to pay postage to return it before you get your money back too. And even then the seller can say it was returned damaged.

Vinted is either really good or really bad depending on the seller. Idiots of Vinted FB group us always good for a laugh / cry too 😂

I do this too, just in case. Same with anything from eBay.

@WTDress

Come back and update us. Really hope you like it.

WTDress · 08/08/2025 13:16

For anyone who’s interested, it arrived today and it is perfect. As described and in great condition. It is a tiny bit too small but for £40 you can bet I’m squeezing into it!
