Ryanair: hand luggage only question: sun hat!

Possibly daft question incoming:

I'm flying Ryanair this weekend with hand luggage only. I was thinking I might like to take a wide brimmed straw hat (of non-folding variety) with me. Is that going to be an issue, does anyone know? I understand Ryanair can be a bit strict on what's considered hand luggage. Thanks!

Could you not just wear it until you sit down?

That was my plan but wondered if they'd be weird about doing just that, what with their ever reductive hand luggage policies!

Just wear it, that's what we did with all our thick cold weather gear in December, a hat should be no issue.

Just wear it. There was a man got on a plane in his snorkelling gear so he didn’t have to carry it as luggage, flippers the lot and I’m sure he said he had his mask on.
