Strange scab on face growing daily

Can anyone help, I will try and get a docs appointment if need be but they are like gold dust round here and not sure if I am overreacting.

I woke up 3 days ago with tiny sore on my cheek, a couple of cm from my mouth. I had had no pimple or bit or anything, it felt like a graze so i assumed i had scratched myself in the night. It was a couple of mm and scabbed over during the day. Didn’t think much of it.

Then the next day I woke up and it has doubled in size, with raw skin now surrounding the scab.

Then this morning, same thing again. You can almost see the rings where each day it has scabbed and grown.

Of course I am imagining all sorts of of horrors and google is freaking me out. The picture it looks most like is a Basel cell carcinoma but it says they grow slowly, not triple in size in 3 days.

It is now very close to my mouth so possibly my a cold sore? But never had one before and it as most definitely my cheek originally.

Any clue? Do I need a drs appt?

Impetigo is my first thought. Highly contagious but not sure because it needs antibiotics, you'd need a docs appt. Check in with pharmacist first?

CrustyOldFrump · 04/08/2025 08:20

I second Beans, but go to Pharmacy while you try to get Drs appointment.

I agree with others, sounds like impetigo or a cold sore. Impetigo will need antibiotic cream, pharmacy can prescribe it for you

HollyBookBlue · 04/08/2025 08:22

Even fast growing cancers don't triple their size in days.

It'll be a skin infection of some sort. I agree, pop to see the pharmacist

DeathMetalMum · 04/08/2025 08:23

Yes sounds like impetigo, you would need antibiotic cream not availableto buy. Ring GP first, some areas will have pharmacies that can prescribe for it but not all.

2dogsandabudgie · 04/08/2025 08:27

Can you do an econsult at your surgery. Attach a photo and say what you have here. How quickly it has grown and that you'd like some antibiotics.

Tygertiger · 04/08/2025 08:30

In my surgery you could send a photo in and they’d likely diagnose you over the phone and prescribe cream. If yours doesn’t have that facility I’d pop into a pharmacist first.

Also joining the chorus of “impetigo”.

tumblingdowntherabbithole · 04/08/2025 08:38

Another vote for impetigo!

A pharmacist can treat you.

summerlovingvibes · 04/08/2025 08:42

Sounds exactly like impetigo. It will clear up quickly with some fucidin cream which you can get from the pharmacist.

itsgettingweird · 04/08/2025 08:44

I also thought impetigo. Do you have a prescribing pharmacy near you as they can a) check and advise and b) prescribe antibiotics if it is

WTDress · 04/08/2025 08:53

Didn’t even think about impetigo. Thanks, will pop to pharmacy.

Will it continue to spread until I can get treatment do you know? It’s bloody hideous and I am due to go out on a big do at the weekend 😭

Sounds exactly like Impetigo!

Hercisback1 · 04/08/2025 09:03

If. You google pharmacy first and then your area, it will tell you which pharmacists offer the service you need.

Concretejungle1 · 04/08/2025 09:05

Are they actual ring like? As it could be ring worm, also contagious for some spreads very quickly!

WTDress · 04/08/2025 09:07

How on earth have I picked this up? I barely left the house last week.
Although I was at Butlin’s the week before, could I have picked it up there with a delay before symptoms?

Typicalwave · 04/08/2025 09:09

Impetiago, peri oral dermatitis or acne rosacea are my first thoughts

Concretejungle1 · 04/08/2025 09:19

Been near any small children or animals? Had your hair done?

WTDress · 04/08/2025 09:51

Just been to the pharmacy, he took one look and definitely impetigo.
I don’t know how my googling didn’t bring it up sooner. I knew I could rely on you lot, thanks ever so much.
