I don't want waste money and have things that will not be used. It it so easy to go overboard and I want to avoid that.

What what a great purchase, used over and over?

What stayed in the cupboard?

Any recommendations for things they won't have thought of? My BiL recommended coloured plates.

We have things they can take, like cups, glasses, cutlery etc. I was going to buy a duvet, pillow, sheets, covers. The only thing they really want is a whiteboard.

Oh and neither of mine had issues with messy kitchens in halls, the universities are pretty hot on this in their cases (2 different places)

DD wasn't allowed an extension lead or fairy lights in her halls. (She had some battery operated ones)
Mattress topper
Plug in night light (at home she always sleeps with the door open)
Substantial slippers or crocs for taking stuff down to the bin.

DD took an insane amount of stuff most of which she insisted she needed. God knows how it's all going to fit into the smaller room in a student house in September!

1 pan (sauce and frying), 1 plate, 1 bowl, 1 set of cutlery. This will also force them to wash up.

Tupperware.

A sickness kit - paracetamol, hangover sachets, strepsils, throat spray, etc. I got freshers flu so badly I was almost hospitalised from everyone’s disgusting germs.

Soap. They won’t buy had soap because they don’t want to spend money. So get them bar soap so they wash their hands and don’t get violently ill.

Slippers. The floors will be gross.

Not the point but I ordered loads of stationary ‘for’ work to give to my DD when she went to uni and went rather overboard on the sticky notes. A day in and DD and new friends pranked their peer by covering every surface of her halls room with the post its!
