Hay festival as a solo traveller?

I’m seriously considering this next spring, I’m aware it’s a long while away! I’d be travelling by train from NE England and hoping to go glamping … huge book love, I try to collect vintage children’s fiction - the older the better.

Are there many other solo women? Is the vibe generally quite friendly? I’m autistic, so looking for an accepting, chilled space :-)

I am also considering this. I do a lot of things by myself and recently went to the Agatha Christie Festival Spring event myself. I would say go for it. I had a lovely time and there was evening a formal dinner which was very pleasant. I met a lovely lady at one of the talks and we spent the day chatting about various things. You do also have to be happy to potter about yourself, which I was and I upgraded to a sea view and nice bits like that.

I would say go for it.

You could also join the winter weekend in November if you are unsure. That is what I did, the main festival is in Sept but I went to the April weekend.

Marking as I’m considering this :)

There was a thread on here a couple of months ago from a woman who volunteers each year and whose trip had been hi-jacked by someone she worked with. It all ended well in the end, but it sounded like there were lots of solo activities and being on your own wouldn’t be unusual or make your trip less fun. My biggest takeaway was to make sure you’ve got a decent tent and can stay warm!

Perhaps someone with a better memory than me will remember it and find a link.

Super friendly and accepting vibe, lots of events where you can meet people and chat if you want to but equally perfectly safe and friendly if you aren’t the sociable type and just want to keep to yourself.
