Water bill gone up x3

We are paying 3x the monthly amount we paid last year. We are metered and live in the south east of England. Anyone else's water bill shot up? I know the companies are having to pay for leaks but don't shoot your customers!

Mine went up enormously. The statement says I've been using double my usual amount (which I doubt) and my bill has gone from £27/month to £130!!

IthasYes · 02/08/2025 16:23

Yes insane and I'm also paying huge amounts on an empty property for charges

CozyCoupe · 02/08/2025 16:25

Ours went up from 35 to 48 a month even though our usage has dropped. We're East of England...think it's a lot worse in the south east.

This happened to me and we had a leak - actually a malfunctioning outside loo. If it’s refilling constantly it can use an enormous amount. Definitely worth checking it’s not anything like this.

Pelvicpaininthebum · 02/08/2025 16:26

Yes, got this last week. From £46 to £87 per month. I don't think our usage has changed, though we did have the toilet cistern leaking into the toilet recently. We had it fixed after a couple of weeks of this happening though.

Firstly you need you check your meter to confirm your usage, then you can see if the amount you are paying is accurate.
Yes, water costs have increased but first confirm that your supposed usage is correct.

My water bill was £15 this month i paid 40 so it keeps me clear.

Yes mine has just gone up from £30 to £90 I was going to call them as I just can’t pay that much.

Let us know how you get on. Mine doubled - £51 to £101 in South East. Called them and because I can’t/don’t claim any benefits I am stuck with it; a huge increase/impact on our family.

Turn everything off in the house and go out to the meter. If there's a leak then there will be movement on the dials.
Then turn off the internal stop tap and go back out to the meter if the dials are still turning Then the leak is on the supply pipe. Some water companies will do a free repair on the supply pipe.

Our quarterly water bill has gone up a lot to nearly double. I know the rates have gone up so that won't have helped but the usage has also increased a lot and I don't think we are using more water. We haven't been filling a paddling pool, washing cars or watering the garden so it is just the usual showers and household use so not sure why it is so high.
I do need to check the actual meter but not sure if it will make any difference.

janehopper · 03/08/2025 10:40

Yep, same here. I think the prices have just gone up as we used less in the last six months than we did the six months before that. Now £140 per month.

2dogsandabudgie · 03/08/2025 10:54

Yes we recently had our bill, gone up from £50 a month to £85 a month. We had a letter with the bill saying that from 1st April charges have gone up by 20% plus standing charge has gone up as well. We are in the south east.
