I've had my teeth whitened before but don't feel like it ever lasts. Has anyone use any home stuff which has actully worked?

by worked do you mean permanently? Cos the only way to achieve that is veneers and I don’t recommend that

TitaniasAss · 01/08/2025 18:54

I'm interested in this too.

Boutique toothpaste - buy it at the dentist
made a good difference

and then the whitening trays -

on interest free credit from the dentist !!

Crest white strips work. My husband stocks up when in the US, but I think you can buy on Amazon.

I had ‘enlighten’ whitening from my dentist about 6 years ago. As I have the trays, I buy 35% peroxide online and use it to top up about once a year. I can also buy the gel from the dentist, but it’s not as strong. The 35% gel does the job in one 30 minute session.

Edited

It is utterly illegal to sell crest strips in the UK and EU and 35% is over double the concentration a dentist is allowed to use legally.

The legislation was brought in due to health dangers from using whitening gels etc so when you are buying you are not only buying from criminals knowingly breaking the law you are buying gels which have been banned ,even for dentists to use , because of health concerns.

There is nothing you can legally buy in UK, EU ,NZ,Australia etc that will whiten teeth. The toothpastes etc are either acidic or abrasive so will dissolve or wear away surface stain and also tooth enamel which won't grow back.

Yes they are really effective

MyUmberSeal · 02/08/2025 12:48

Get the trays made at your dentist. it’s a few hundred quid but then it’s done and you can then purchase the syringes from your dentist. I use 6% hydrogen peroxide once a week for 3 hours and the 10% carbamide peroxide once a fortnight over night.

No toothpaste or whitening strip compares.

Crest white strips. I buy them from the US Amazon site. I paid around £40 for 20 treatments.

EveryDayisFriday · 02/08/2025 12:58

@Lollygaggle is right, they are illegal to buy in the UK but not in the USA, they are a normal thing to use over there.

CoffeeandWalnuts · 02/08/2025 13:10

I used boutique whitening from the dentist and the results were really good. I have the fitted trays for my teeth now and can buy the whitening gel quite cheap and top up whenever I like. So expensive in the short term, but in the long term I can keep my teeth white as long as I have the trays.

DiscoBob · 02/08/2025 13:15

It wears off as it's just peroxide. The staining will come back. If it's from food, drink etc.

I've done zoom (the home kit only) one where you use it for an hour and another where you use it overnight. It does make a difference but I couldn't complete the course as I found it uncomfortable and hard to sleep wearing the things. And it made my teeth really sensitive.

The cost included a custom made thing for your teeth and I think it costs about £500? I got it for £200 and I probably wouldn't bother again.

But I'm not that fussed about having very white teeth. I smoke so it's never going to look perfect.

Sjh15 · 02/08/2025 15:09

There’s one I got for a fiver from Morissons a few weeks ago which for a fiver was amazing

Busybee818 · 02/08/2025 15:20

Crest whitestrips were amazing but apparently contained unsafe levels of hydrogen peroxide and damaged your teeth so I stopped. I've now gone with the dentists whitening treatment which is 5x the price and results not as good.

BurntBroccoli · 02/08/2025 15:24

I’ve bought genuine Crest white strips from the US in the past. They do work! People use them all the time over there.

kenyaswhiterefrigerator · 02/08/2025 17:51

Crest Whitestrips

Besos1 · 02/08/2025 18:26

Pola Night Whitening. Worked for me but made teeth v sensitive initially. Does wear off eventually if you stop using it.

doodleschnoodle · 02/08/2025 18:32

I got trays from dentist and the Pola Night stuff from him. Worked really well, got a good few shades lighter and no sensitivity. Now I have the trays I just re-do every so often.

whatsit84 · 02/08/2025 20:01

As many others, crest white strips from the US!

whatsit84 · 02/08/2025 20:01

My dentist told me she uses them too 😆

MagnificentBastard · 02/08/2025 20:04

My husband’s dentist said crest strips are perfectly safe to use.

The problem is if you buy them in the UK or EU the suppliers have no.legitimate way of obtaining the genuine strips . So you are buying from people knowingly breaking the law who cannot supply from a legitimate source. You have no guarantee they are safe , genuine , not counterfeit etc.
These suppliers also supply strips in strengths it is not even legal for a dentist to use. These laws were brought in because of the health hazards eg oral cancer , gum and tooth damage that high concentrations of whitening gels can bring.

HighlandsExpat · 03/08/2025 03:09

Anyone in the UK can order Crest Whitestrips from the Amazon US site, and the products are sold and shipped directly from Amazon. They are legitimate. Amazon UK - no idea who is selling it or how they got it.

Whitestrips work by letting hydrogen peroxide sit on your teeth and dissolve stains. This is the same ingredient a dentist uses to whiten teeth. In the UK a dentist is allowed to administer it whereas in the US, it's allowed in at-home products. It's not an inherently risky ingredient; you just have to follow instructions. On the box the Crest Whitestrips do say to only wear them for the time indicated and to only use them once or twice a year.

I live in Canada and use them twice a year. I'd recommend the Crest 3D Whitestrips Professional Effects - they are more expensive but they make a huge difference because they have more peroxide than the cheaper ones. I don't go through the whole box in one go (it's a 24 day routine), I usually see a big difference after 12 and save the rest to use six months later.

Firstholiday · 03/08/2025 07:04

@Jesswebster01 invest in the trays, they really work. Ive had mine years and whilst i don't do it all the time, it's worth it to have as the gel works a treat
