Anyone worried about flights? I am due to fly tomorrow. I wonder whether it will be cancelled.

I've no idea, but hopefully they will be able to get things running again soon. Where are you going?

squashyhat · 30/07/2025 17:16

Sorted now. ATC are dealing with backlog.

InMyHealthyEra · 30/07/2025 17:16

It was restored before the headlines hit. Temporary glitch, the delays might take a few hours to catch up but flights are already moving

Is anyone at the airport now? Are you moving and how delayed are you?

Knowing this won't actually help. Air craft logistics are complex. All you can do is what your airline advises fir your flight.

sorry, I know it's shit, but gathering random information won't help with what will happen with your flight.

i hope your flight goes as planned x

My DD and her boyfriend were on a flight from oslo to Heathrow, they were nearly back, she's just phoned to say they're back in oslo airport!
They're booked on another flight later on, but she's pretty stressed!

the80sweregreat · 30/07/2025 17:35

This is worrying , but I think it’s a glitch.
Not much fun if your flight is disrupted though.
Hope it’s sorted out soon for people.,

Oh fuck ds is flying out to meet me tomorrow. First time flying alone 😱

Oh no, very sorry to hear that. I hope your DD gets back soon.

Fingers crossed flights resume as close to normal as possible tomorrow. Simon Calder said on the news it may take 4 days to get back to normal due to pilots and hours over shift etc (understandably).

notimagain · 30/07/2025 17:45

Four days sounds a bit pessimistic TBH.

Problem is supposedly fixed, obviously there are delays now and a backlog to sort out but you'd hope not too much disruption beyond tomorrow AM.

As always though the only authority is the airlines.

Sat at the airport in Germany currently says 2 hour delay back to Stansted. Not so bad, sofa, free WiFi and large coffee! Enjoying the quiet!

Hopefully you get off soon. 2hrs is pretty good if they keep to that time

At least you’re in a nice hospitality type place La La!
I hope you can get away soon.

YetanotherNC25 · 30/07/2025 23:47

I dropped my DC off at Manchester airport as this story was breaking. He was delayed 2 1/2 hours setting off to Portugal. But he’s arrived now and all flights are leaving, just later than expected. Might be a bit if a delay/backlog tomorrow but it won’t take too long to rectify. Wouldn’t worry too much.

DD has just landed at Heathrow!
Was a long journey from Oslo in the end.

She'd be more stressed if they crashed.

Air Traffic Control issues are not to be taken lightly.

Well duh.

Being stressed about flight delays doesn't mean you're taking air traffic control issues lightly. Why would you think it does?

I would also have been pretty stressed as I don't really like flying.
She phoned me to tell me about it, as if I could do anything!!

True, but for context/for the benefit of the worriers what seems to happened yesterday is a loss of the the radar picture over southern England.

Now whisper it quietly but it's perfectly possible to fly in areas where there is no radar coverage (there are procedures to facilitate it and equipment onboard aircraft that allows crew to avoid other traffic without outside assistance) but what the loss of radar means is Air Traffic Control cannot pack aircraft into airspace such as that over the UK as closely as they need to these days to keep things moving normally, hence the stop...

For God Sake - call yourself a mother??

Surely you could have told the pilot to sort his shit out & land at Heathrow because your daughter is on his plane!!

🤣🤣

It's a shame you don't enjoy flying! 🫩
