Aarrgghh at airport and forgot HRT

Away for 7 nights. Anyone know if you can buy it over the counter in Portugal?
Will missing it for 7 days matter? Was sure I’d packed it but cocked up.

Is there a Boots pharmacy in the airport. Can your GP send an emergency prescription electronically to them or to a pharmacy near where you’re staying?

Brownieshonour · 30/07/2025 13:33

I don’t think it’s life or death if you miss seven days, but your regime would be interrupted and you might have breakthrough bleeding and a return of symptoms.

BadActingParsley · 30/07/2025 13:34

I went on holiday for a fortnight and forgot it - it was fine. But I was glad to start again when I got back! you can get a prescription sent but it turned into too much of a saga to bother for me.

MyCatsSlave · 30/07/2025 13:36

If you are at Heathrow T5, the boots before security dispenses prescriptions and you can get an emergency prescription if they are in stock. Good luck

fizzynotflat · 30/07/2025 13:38

No am in a crappy terminal with a Boots but no pharmacy and flight is going in 50 minutes. I’ll ask/ beg at the pharmacies in Portugal! Thanks for the replies. What an idiot, remember picking it up from the bathroom so god knows what I did with it.

Not Portugal OP but might give you hope.
My luggage was delayed 4 days after arriving in Tenerife. The nearest chemist gave me a supply, no questions asked, although I had an old prescription on my phone.

Brownieshonour · 30/07/2025 13:47

Hope you find a helpful pharmacist when you get there. I expect this is an issue that they deal with fairly regularly if it’s a tourist area?
It might even turn up in one of your bags as you can’t remember what you did with it! Maybe it’s in an outer zipped pocket?
Try not to worry, and enjoy your flight.

Can you ring your doctors.. Ask them to email you proof to show a pharmacist in Portugal? ♥️

Good idea

HowToTrainYourDragonfruit · 30/07/2025 13:55

In the past I have forgotten to fill my repeat prescription and had gaps - I've ordered oestrogel onlinr from private pharmacies and had it delivered to my home in the UK. I dont know whether they would deliver to the place you are staying?

Found something called doctorsa.com by googling, but don't know if good !

KitsyWitsy · 30/07/2025 13:55

in Ibiza recently, my friend had no trouble getting hers from a pharmacy. I know it’s not Portugal but it might be similar?

Fraudornot · 30/07/2025 13:56

In Spain you can buy the oestrogel over the counter in a pharmacy. May be the same in Portugal - have a Google and see what it is called there.

MageQueen · 30/07/2025 13:57

It is fine if you don't take it, but symptoms might reappear.

I would try to see if you can get it OTC in Portugal.

Or you could get someone to courier it to you? Does anyone have keys to your house?

itsgettingweird · 30/07/2025 13:58

If you remember picking it up hopefully you’ve packed it and just haven’t found where yet!

But absolutely ask at local pharmacy. Just be aware they have different dispensing licenses - when I moved to Spain I had to change the contraceptive pill I was on as the one I took (Celeste) wasn’t licensed there.

I was switched to microgynon. My ds is 21 in a few weeks 🫣😂

Bananafofana · 30/07/2025 14:00

I forgot my prescription in Spain and went to a local walk in clinic with my GHIC card - 20 min wait, saw dr, got prescription, went to pharmacy. All free, all done and dusted within an hour (couldn’t do that in London!) . Nb NOT the hotel doctor, who is private, I kept asking until I was directed to the public service

estrogone · 30/07/2025 14:07

Hope you get sorted OP. My CroneAway (aka HRT that sends my inner witch packing) would be sorely missed for seven days. I believe my DH would concur 😂

fizzynotflat · 30/07/2025 22:03

Thanks so much for replying, all you lovely people. Appreciate it. I’ve google translated it and am going to the pharmacy tomorrow. @itsgettingweird that’s a mistake and a half, but one am sure you would never regret now.

Good point. Both DP and I have forgotten prescription meds on different trips. We've been able to buy meds from pharmacies in Portugal and in Spain by showing the prescriptions on the NHS app.

CroneAway 😀

Delphigirl · 30/07/2025 22:12

I did this in France - I went to a French pharmacy and showed my prescription on the nhs app and they dispensed estrogel and utrigestan for me. Cheap, too!

Xiaoxiong · 30/07/2025 22:15

You may find you actually brought it, I was on the plane to japan a few weeks ago with a sick feeling I'd forgotten my contact lenses only to find many hours later that I had in fact packed them in the case! Didn't stop me frantically googling whether I could buy acuvue daily contacts without a prescription in Tokyo.

fizzynotflat · 31/07/2025 20:31

Got it! Amazing service here, ordered it this morning and picked it up this afternoon! Thanks for all your advice, everyone.

That’s wonderful. Have a lovely holiday. ( I wonder where you will find your medication when you get home: in the bread bin or somesuch place?).
Thanks for the update.

fizzynotflat · 01/08/2025 14:07

Ha ha probably! Thank you @Brownieshonour
