Have you ever moved to a new area alone?

Just wondering from anyone who may have done this. I’m divorced with teenagers. Considering buying a home in a cheaper area in a couple of years. Currently retraining. Friendships have changed in recent years. If you have done this was how have you found it? What did you do to meet people? Any tips?

Yep, I’ve done it twice (excluding university), once in my 20s and once in my 40s. Both times was for work so a had a “framework” to my life, and I gradually met people walking my dog, via work, joining yoga classes etc, basically doing things I was interested in on the basis I’d people who also liked doing those things and we’d have something in common.

Not going to say it was always easy and I did feel lonely at time, usually when I got a flat tire or needed physical help with something! Overall I quite enjoy getting to know a new place and I did it all over again 20years later so can’t have been that bad.

I always think if your running towards someone that helpful, so maybe think an out where you want to be and why then go form their. Good luck @Flightyandmighty .

I have, a couple of times with work and once with ex husband. The trick is to be VERY comfy with your own company, have things to look forward to which don’t involve anyone, like a really nice cookery session, or a lovely bath and film, all planned out. And accept every single invitation even if it’s not something you fancy.

I also think it would be much easier these days with internet joining everyone up. Plus a bit of online dating etc.
