Embarrassing hot flushes all through my cousin's wedding! 😳

My cousin's wedding was last weekend. I was looking forward to the event itself, and the chance to catch up with people I hadn't seen for ages.

But OMG, I wasn't prepared for how hot I'd be! I wore a lovely summer dress with accessories, and knew I looked nice when I arrived at the church. I'm not in the model league😀, but fairly nice looking, and photos taken of me are generally good! I've recently turned 50.

It was a beautiful church service (nice and cool there too, also for family photos).

The reception however (wedding breakfast followed by evening reception) was in a marquee. It was a hot day, and I can only describe that marquee as 'greenhouse effect'. Other people were hot too, but not as hot as me!

I couldn't hide it, as was sat in groups for family photos, as well as being introduced to my cousin's in-laws and friends. Lovely, lovely people and I was keen to chat, but the sweat was running off me! My damp hair, face & neck is visible in many photos (thank goodness the church ones are fine!) I can get hot so took cooling wipes in case, but this time they just made me look wetter!

I stepped outside to cool down a few times but nobody else needed to, and I was asked if I was ok.

Someone even asked if I was a bit anxious. I absolutely wasn't, part of my job is organizing big events and attending many, so I'm well used to them!

I just feel a bit mortified, nothing I could have done to prevent it but I'd made an effort and ended up looking like a drowned rat and it wasn't raining!! I tried to avoid the camera a few times but my cousin & partner were v keen that everyone was in the photos, (I can understand that).

Yes, the important thing was it was their day and I was there for them; but I was rather more 'on show' than I expected, and looked as though I'd made no effort at all, when a lot of time, money and styling had actually gone into my appearance. 🤔 I'm hoping my embarrassment fades as time goes on! Thought about leaving early, but it wasn't an option and I'd have felt rude.

This was me in perimenopause. I gave up drinking, that helped. Now I'm on HRT, hot flushes are very rare.

Apparently you can buy neck fans which I think sound good.

Thank you, I'll look at neck fans. It's only the second time this has happened, but embarrassing enough to think about HRT too!

After the first initial champagne with the meal we all bought our own drinks which I was glad about, as I switched to lemonade with ice for the evening. There were some people who'd normally say 'Oh why aren't you drinking?!' but I didn't get into buying rounds and pretended it was gin & tonic!

I dread to think how I'd have been drinking gin, although it's normally my favourite drink! 😮😀
