Help - temporary car insurance for non-UK resident?

I don’t know if anyone is able to help. My parents who live in Ireland are visiting us in the UK this week to help kind my daughter while DH and I are working. In the past we have been able to put my Dad on our car insurance as a temporary driver. However, our current insurance won’t do it because he is not a UK resident. I have tried many other insurers and they are all letting me fill in the form and then saying that they can’t provide a quote.

As I say we’ve never had an issue doing this before, can anyone recommend and insurer who will do this? It’s going to be a real pain if they can’t take DD anywhere out of the house all week 🙃

Tempcover. Does what it says on the tin. Friends use it when their son visits from the States.

Thanks, I tried them and they wouldn’t provide a quote either. They also wouldn’t provide a reason why. My Dad is 71, so well below the 78 cut off. I’m at a loss!

I live in the EU and when I visit UK I use my parent's car. They could add me to their Direct Line insurance for a max of 90 days per year. Now they've changed to LV Insurance and this company also allows me to be added for max 90 days a year. So maybe worth looking at them.

In the same boat - visiting my parents from France, with a French licence, and SAGA will no longer insure me on my parents car 🤷‍♀️ doesn’t seem to be any way round it.

Thank you - we were with Director Line before and did this several times no problem. Now with Tesco and they won’t do it for a non-UK resident. They told me to google it to find another company to do it and I have tried loads of websites, they all say they are unable to quote.

So frustrating isn’t it! We’re going to see if there’s a way to do it through my Dad’s insurance. It’s odd as there must be insurance for non-UK residents who are hiring a car here. We did look at just hiring a car but it was really expensive.
