DP won't kiss me because he has a sore throat.

He's not feeling unwell but has been complaining of a very sore throat for a week.

Considerately, he won't kiss me because he doesn't want to share it, but we're still sharing a bed, so my view is if I'm going to catch it I'm going to catch it...?

You may or may not catch it by sharing a bed, but swapping saliva is a sure fire way to spread it. I recently had a very sore throat, it felt like swallowing razors, despite sharing a bed DH did not catch it. I think he's being sensible.

This is weird. He’s ill and doesn’t want to kiss. I don’t kiss when I’m ill and wouldn’t want to kiss someone who is either.

NoNameisGoodEnough · 28/07/2025 12:05

I wouldn't want him to kiss me! We don't kiss if we are ill. It's one thing if some germs find their way in but it's another to swap them on purpose! Yuck.

I'd be furious if my husband wanted to kiss me with a sore throat.

And no, I don't always catch his illnesses just by sleeping beside him.

CherryYellowCouch · 28/07/2025 12:07

Your DH seems:

  1. very considerate of your health
  2. clearly setting a boundary.

Not quite sure what your point is.

But he’s right, kissing is likely to increase your chance of catching it.

Sore throats are horrible, I hope he feels better soon.

ExponentialDelivery · 28/07/2025 12:08

Sounds like a sensible chap.

Kreepture · 28/07/2025 12:10

me and my exh never used to kiss each other when either of us were sick either, and i still don't kiss my kids when i'm ill (yes, even a peck on the cheek)

It's perfectly normal and sensible.

rainbowstardrops · 28/07/2025 12:10

A sensible, selfless bloke for a change

AllotmentHappy · 28/07/2025 12:22

Sounds like a good bloke. I dont like kissing my dh when im sick either.

PivotPivotmakingmargaritas · 28/07/2025 12:35

He’s sick so not feeling his normal self x man flu. Means no a kiss is not on the table and you should be happy not ranting on mumsnet

FullOfMomsense · 28/07/2025 13:15

Then sleep elsewhere? I really don't see a problem here. If you don't have a spare bed or comfy sofa then he's limiting your chances of getting ill. You sound weird!
