I’m a recent convert to podcasts and started with recent episodes of Rest is Politics. I’ve gone back to episode 1 and am now listening to them all (all 400 & something). Interesting to listen to 4 + years ago and what’s subsequently unfolded

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 28/07/2025 05:26

These.

Which podcasts do you listen to
Which podcasts do you listen to

Which podcasts do you listen to
UnimaginableWindBird · 28/07/2025 05:41

I try to keep up with these:
Quiet Riot
Sherlock & Co
The Rest is Politics
Alex Andreu's Podyssey

And I dip into these when I have time and am in the mood:
The Rest is History
You:re Dead to Me
All about Agatha
Zoe
Decoder Ring
Empire
Shedunnit
Help, I Sexted my Boss
The Irish Passport
Welcome to Hell

And I really enjoyed My Dad Wrote a Porno, The Magnus Archives, Portentous Peril's Adventures in the 23rd Century and Mockery Manor - they have all finished, but are fine to listen to now.

The Rest is Politics with Beth Rigby, Ruth Davidson and Harriet Harmon.

It’s called ‘Electoral Dysfunction’
‘The Rest is Politics’ is with Rory Stewart and Alistair Campbell
I listen to both and would recommend

AthenaWhite · 28/07/2025 06:35

NevilleBigBottom · 27/07/2025 20:38

Thanks for The Magnus Archives recommendation - right up my street.

in a similar vein I recommend:
The White Vault
Undertow (from Realm)
Station 151
Tracks (BBC sounds)
The Lovecraft investigations (also BBC)

For knowledge -

Origin Story
The News Agents (and News Agents USA)
Cautionary Tales

Thank you! I've done a few of those but not all. Cheers 😃

Kermode & Mayo’s Take
Running is Bullshit
Bald Move
This is History
The Bechdel Cast
With Me Now
Stuff You Should Know
Creature Feature
Simon Mayo’s Book of the Year
Bone & Joint Journal - yeah so this might be a bit niche

Runningismyhappyplace50 · 28/07/2025 07:18

I love Teen Commandments at the moment.
Also listen to Miss Me (Miquita and Lily Allen).

Used to love Shagged, Married Annoyed but stopped listening recently.

Costacoffeeplease · 28/07/2025 07:44

Older and Wider with Jenny Eclair

It can be a bit hit and miss, lots of grandchildren chat which can be a bit tedious and her Co host can be a bit sycophantic
‘ooh I know, I know you do, I know just what you mean…..’ but it can be amusing

Costacoffeeplease · 28/07/2025 07:46

Re Shagged Married Annoyed, I think they’re running out of steam and just phoning it in now

And another case of tight diamond shoes

Dolphinnoises · 28/07/2025 07:50

The Rest is Politics
The Missing Crytoqueen
Rabbit Hole (NY Times)
Stalked (BBC Sounds)

I listen to podcasts all day at work, in the car and at night before bed. I've split them into categories.

News/ informative:
The smart 7, (quick news update)
The rest is entertainment/ money and politics
Infinite monkey cage
Political currency
The bugle
Myths and legends

Chilling/ creepy:
Uncanny
Dark history
Murder mystery and makeup
Carrie Jade doesn't exist.

Silly/ funny podcasts:
Three bean salad
Off Menu
Help I sexted my boss
We're here to help
Smartless
Shagged married annoyed
Toni and ryan

I like a lot of radio edit podcasts:
John Robins and Elis James 5live
Ed Gamble and Mathew Crosby Radio X
Johnny Vaughn 4-7 thang
Jason Manford absolute radio

SherlockHolmes · 28/07/2025 08:10

Zoe
Feel Better Live More
Uncanny
Tortoise Investigates
My Dad Wrote a Porno - the funniest thing I've ever heard. Had to stop listening to it on my walk to work as I kept laughing out loud so much!

yayoikusama · 28/07/2025 08:26

I love real-life storytelling, so I tend towards:

  • This American Life: the Big Daddy of podcasts. Usually 3 stories brilliantly produced and told around a central theme. Most of their best episodes are in the back catalogue on their website rather than on the apps
  • The Moth: Again, stories told around a theme - often people's names picked from a hat at live events
  • Risk: it's mostly NSFW but brilliant if you like this kind of thing
  • Love + Radio: The episode 'The Living Room' is one of my favourite podcast episodes of all time
  • Heavyweight: A dorky host helps people address things that are hanging over them from their past by going to talk to the other people involved. They're doing a retrospective season at the moment but the originals are incredible
  • Everything Is Alive: Interviews with inanimate objects, improvised live as they record with actors. Sounds really weird but is utterly enchanting
  • Ear Hustle: Podcast made in San Quentin prison. Little told stories of what it's like to be incarcerated in America
  • Beautiful Stories From Anonymous People: Random anonymous callers spend 1 hour on the phone with Chris Gethard sharing stories about their lives. You get a peek into so many different lifestyles and topics you'd never otherwise hear about, it's fascinating.
  • Criminal: Not your standard crime podcast, and Phoebe Judge's voice is like a snuggly hug
  • Where Should We Begin? with Esther Perel: Again, the early seasons were the best - listening in to a one-off couples therapy session with the G.O.A.T
KitsyWitsy · 28/07/2025 08:32

Crime writers on..
Answer me this (best podcast of all time)
Stuff you should know
Stuff they don't want you to know.

I listen to others as well but these ones I listen to the most.

raininginlanzarote · 28/07/2025 08:52

Second anything with Lucy Worsely, she’s brilliant!

Coffeeishot · 28/07/2025 08:55

Rest is Entertainment, Ladykillers by lucy worsley is good, and DISH although i watch that rather than listen,

Oh yes of course it is (brain hiccup)! Thanks for noticing. I also listen to The Rest is Politics, but not as much as I used to.

The Archers
Uncanny
Murder They Wrote

HollyhockDays · 28/07/2025 13:34

If I’m into a particular programme I’ll try and find a podcast for it. HBO do good ones.

Oh I like her, I dip in and out of Desert island discs, but I will listen to hers.

yayoikusama · 31/07/2025 08:01

@SinisterBumFacedCat I LOVED The Ballad of Billy Balls and The Apology Line – listened to both on a 5-day hike and was completely immersed!

Might have to revisit those soon... thanks for the reminder!

FrenchandSaunders · 31/07/2025 08:22

I’ve recently found “what’s my age again” with Katherine Ryan.

Guest celebs who have a blood test and discover their chronological age compared to their biological age. They discuss lifestyle before revealing the age …. really interesting and a lot of athletes fared worse than ‘normal’ people.
