I think I've been overpaid...

I'm not 100% sure because payslips are on an electronic system that I haven't been able to get logged onto (probably my fault) and I'm waiting for new log in details.

I started the job part way through a month, but I thought I had the backpay last month. My tax is a mess because I was previously a higher rate tax payer and now I'm not. Also my hours are increasing, but I was expecting that to be from Sept.

So, I don't really know exactly how much I was expecting, but have received about double. Unless there's a big tax refund (does that happen?) it can't be right.

I work in school so am off now until Sept, although payroll staff will be working.

Would you contact them or wait for them to get in touch/leave it for September?

I’d just get in touch with them ASAP if I was you. There’s no point waiting around really, if it’s an error then you’d have to return the money so you can’t spend it, if it’s not an error then you can have that confirmed and take yourself out for a treat!

Paying back won't be a problem, once I know what I owe.

I'm struggling with what to say. I can only say I don't think it's right, I can't say what's wrong.

IME correcting payroll errors often brings more errors, so I'd like to have the figures really.

Payroll will be able to check the payslip & provide you a copy you that you can actually figure that out.

I had this recently and when I looked closely at my payslip there was a plus symbol next to the tax box. It was a random tax rebate.

It could be that then because I'm definitely owed tax.

Can you check on the Hmrc app? It should say whether you had a tax refund

What date did you start on and what day is pay day? What is your take home pay - use theMSE tax calculators to work it out.
