When did carrier bags become 30p?!

Popped into Aldi post run - I didn't intend to, but remembered a few bits.

Ended up needing a bag.

30p?! 30P?????!!!!!

It was bad enough when they were 10p. But 30p? I remember when you could buy a chocolate bar for 30p.

I'm feeling completely shocked this morning. Not a good way to start the day.

Bags haven’t been 10p in a long time.

Also “remembering” something doesn’t make it recent. Chocolate bars haven’t been 30p for over 3 decades.
Over 20 years ago when I worked in a news
agent the going price was 45-50p.

It was originally introduced as a 5p charge to discourage you from getting a bag, 30p definitely discourages me!

I've never paid for a plastic carrier bag because I always carry folding bags with me " just in case"
Having said that I'm full of admiration for OP having the stamina to go shopping after her run. In the far distant past when I used to run I usually just had enough energy to make it home.

If I buy something from a supermarket and don't have a bag with me, I just pick a box up off one of the shelves and use that to carry my stuff away with me.

The price is intended to encourage people to reuse their bags multiple times and too many people aren't bothering to do this. Apathy tax.
