Would adult social services help with this?

A 70 year old family member has ended up in hospital with memory lapses. He’s still there.

None of us had been to his house (owned/ no mortgage) for years. Upon entering to get his things, there’s no water, no electricity, floorsboards/ roof falling in, every room full of junk etc.

If we call adult social services and tell them that the house is a fire hazard etc, would they help to rehome him?

We have tried many times to get him to move but he won’t because of the complexity of it. We have offered help but he won’t even discuss it.

Any advice/ suggestions welcome!

We have tried many times to get him to move

but neither you or indeed any of the family visited him for “years”

Take photos and speak to the staff in the ward. There will be a hospital social services team. Good luck!

For obvious reasons, he comes to our houses. He never invites us over.

There should be a team in the hospital that can support (if it’s a bigish hospital that is) with this. Ours is called a resettlement officer and they work with the hospital social work team.
