Ours is set up slightly complicated

5 year old gets £4 into her purse £1 savings piggy
8 year old £6.40 card £1.60 savings pot connected
12 year old £9.60 card £2.40 savings pot
17 year old £13.60 card £3.40 savings pot.

they basically get
£1 per year of age. But their bank accounts are set to automatically put 20% in separate savings pot.

every now and then they will spend the savings pot but it’s usually for holiday spends that sort of thing. It’s not their main savings so we leave it to them to decide what they do and what they prioritise.
ie my 17 year old I see a lot of Lidl transactions and she will take from her savings but she knows she chooses that over buying clothes or books etc. But my 12 year old has a tendency to save more then do bigger purchases of games etc.

She tends to save it.
I don’t really see any food transactions when out with friends. She might use some at cinema every now and then. But generally she saves it. Then randomly she will spend it. Yesterday she saw Claire’s had a sale on and she spent £65. A little while ago she brought a switch game.

I do notice that when she ends up with quite a bit in her card account she will transfer into savings more.
