Consultation for orthodontic treatment, what do I need to know?

Can anyone with experience of having braces suggest things I need to ask at a consultation I have for orthodontic treatment?

I’m mid 40s and at the stage where I’d like to get this done before I feel too old.

I would be asking about the aftercare - when my daughter was considering a brace we asked what the end result would look like and what was achievable. We were told that she would have to wear a retainer at night for the rest of her life as if she didn’t wear it her teeth would move back to there original position. It is worth considering what you are prepared to put up with for what result.
