Is there anything I can do to make this sleeping situation better?!

We are on holiday and the pull out bed is hideous. Mattress is very thin and you can feel the metal underneath.

i have tried padding it with cushions but it hasn’t made it much better.

Any suggestions on how I can make this more manageable for the next week? I’ve suggested tag teaming with the person in the master bedroom so we alternate nights in each but they’re not keen as they don’t like the look of the sofa bed and say they won’t be able to get on and off it easily as it’s low🤨

I have uploaded pics but know they can take
a while to be approved.

Looks horrific, could you put the mattress on the floor and fold up the sofa so you are at least not being poked by metal?

if any children are in the house, get them to sleep on it and take their bed, as they are lighter and won’t be poked much (I remember thinking air beds were comfy as a kid- not any more!)

NuffSaidSam · 21/07/2025 22:55

I'd ask the hotel to sort in with an extra mattress (or five) or at least some duvets to pad it out. Looks absolutely awful.

Tumbler2121 · 21/07/2025 22:56

Airbeds cost around £10 single, bit more for doubles. should sort the issue

I also agree that you'd probably be more comfy on the mattress on the floor!

Tumbler2121 · 21/07/2025 22:56

I assumed caravan. If hotel, get them to fix it

SeaToSki · 21/07/2025 22:57

Are you anywhere you can buy a mattress topper or a camping mat to pad it?

Zov · 21/07/2025 22:59

That's disgusting. What kind of a place provides a monstrosity like that?!

They have better beds in prison!

Zov · 21/07/2025 22:59

Is it possible for you to get a blow up airbed from anywhere?

Mattressmama · 21/07/2025 23:02

It’s a caravan, no extra mattresses available sadly! I’ll look into a blowup bed tomorrow!

Mattress on the floor would be more comfortable

Mudflaps · 21/07/2025 23:08

Aldi or lidl had camping pads in recently, they wouldn't be the best quality but may be enough to .ake the bed bearable

FrangipaniBlue · 21/07/2025 23:12

I was going to suggest trying the mattress on top of the cushions?

That’s what I am doing tonight. They seem to be making the base dip inwards in the middle but the metal feels less jarring!

I had thought about letting my children sleep
on it as suggested above but worry they could get out the back door easily as it’s right by the end of the bed (eldest is known to sleep walk).

Is there another sofa? I find the sofas are normally more comfortable than the pull out.

Are they funding the holiday or at least paying more?

Minecroft · 21/07/2025 23:20

We are on holiday atm and after night one spent £15 on a single air bed (and £5 on a pump) for one of the party to avoid a week of sleepless hell. Could you do the same?

iamnotalemon · 21/07/2025 23:21

Not ideal but I’d be ordering a mattress topper from Amazon or getting a blow up bed!

Zov · 21/07/2025 23:21

How old are your kids @Mattressmama ? Is it not possible to lock the door - like with a key? Or it like a latch? Can't open it from the outside but can from the inside?

IlonaRN · 21/07/2025 23:25

Definitely try mattress on top of cushions

PoxyAndIKnowIt · 21/07/2025 23:31

That person in the master bedroom is very selfish.
Don’t holiday with them again!

Mattressmama · 22/07/2025 00:03

The door has locks you twist but no latch or key option.

I didn’t even manage an hour on the cushion/mattress combo. Now on the floor with the mattress but it doesn’t even feel like I’m on a mattress on the floor it’s so thin. Definetly ordering an air bed tomorrow!

£80 down for this. Can’t say I’m impressed!
