Thinking of a mini break for my 60th in early December. Does Amsterdam have a decent Christmas market? And are the festive lights etc good? Recommendations for accommodation, food etc welcome 😊

No, but I can highly recommend Haarlem which is mid December

It is also a very nice town and easy to reach by train from Schiphol or Amsterdam

Amsterdam is the worst place to go for Christmas markets! Couldn't find any when I was there one December.

We went for my husband’s Christmas work’s party. Didn’t see any Christmas markets, but everywhere was beautifully decorated.

No, markets are German not Dutch. We celebrate St Martin & St Nicholas more than Christmas. Any market here will just be a gimmick for tourists. Plus Christmas in NL is grey and damp. Brussels has a really good market though

Not too far from away, I can highly recommend Antwerp for Christmas decorationa and the market.

Amsterdam has lovely light displays but the Christmas market scene is non-existent. Go to Germany, Austria, or Scandinavia.

I did think about Vienna as I have a friend who works there & would know where to go.
