How did you choose your baby's name.

For our first child DH was in the bath and thought of a name.
At the time I had also thought of a name.
Ended up his first and mine the middle name.
Found out after DS was born the first name was my great grandfathers
and the middle name was DHs great grandfathers name.

DDs name was chosen as an emergency she wasn't expected to live that night
and we wanted her to be christened. Didn't pick a middle name.
She survived and is now in her 40's and a mother of 3.

I remember finding it really difficult to choose! We didn't find out what sex either DC were. With DC#1 DH kept suggesting 1 name with a particular nickname that I thought was stupid so I kept saying no. I offered lots of alternatives but he also said no to all! But he would only come back with this 1 name. Eventually I bought the Penguin baby name book, went through every single name to find the style I liked and we eventually decided on a name. We very quickly came to agree on 1 name for the opposite sex.
DC#2 was even more difficult as we had fallen on love with DC#1's name and it was a hard act to follow! Back to the Penguin baby name book for another deep search. DC#2 was 4 weeks early, we had narrowed their name down to 2 with 1 being our favourite so we went for that. I'd gone off the opposite sex name we chose for DC#1 by the time DC#2 was due so they would have remained nameless for a long time of they had been the opposite sex!
Both have middle names after long passed great grandparents.

How wonderful for your DD to defy the odds.
Did you have a few names for her in mind, or was it a matter of deciding there and then?

Wanted a name that you don't hear all the time but wasnt unique iyswim. I'm a massive horror film fan and one of the characters names from a classic horror movie was perfect 😁

I went through the books on my shelves looking for good characters and names. Luckily I found what I wanted in the Bs! (Chalet School, but a fairly unusual name so a bit too outing).

DD should be grateful I was largely out of my fantasy phase, or she could have been Laralanthalasa, which sounded just lovely to my 14yo self!

I named eldest dd after a character in a historical novel I was reading. It ended up being a top ten name and dd was one of 4 in her year. Middle name after a deceased relative in my side.
Dh named dd2 after his aunt who had recently died. And middle name after his gran.
Ds we couldn’t agree and going into labour we still had a favourite each. Dh let me have my name after a difficult birth. Middle name we agreed together

First was a name I heard at work and liked.
2nd was what dc1 kept calling my bump and it stuck.
3rd was my great grandfather's name who had brought my mum up/ I was very close to him.

@WhoWouldBeAWoman DD is the first girl in 5 generations on DH side.
We didn't know if we were having a boy or girl.
She was a pleasant surprise.
