Question for those good at restoring furniture

Hey, we have this coffee table and I want to try to restore it rather than buy a new one, but have no idea where to begin! Have attached a picture of what it looks like now and what it should look like. How would I start? I guess I need some sort of antique brass paint, but I it needs to be waterproof. Hope someone can help!

You could try touching it up with some brass or gold tinted wax.

Wouldn’t that rub off though? Can’t be something that rubs off as obviously we use it all the time xx

I'd go with a furniture paint (Rustoleum is good) or possibly a spray paint OP. Then either varnish/ spray lacquer to protect the finish. Give the piece a good clean with sugar soap first 😊

Not necessarily. I would go at it slowly and carefully so as not to disturb the finish. Once wax dries it can be a relatively hard finish but you could always add a coat of lacquer ( cheap hairspray works great ).
A furniture paint would completely change its actual aspect. Proceed with caution! Maybe a bit of metallic spray paint in gold and bronze. Try out your choice in an inconspicuous spot and be patient till dry. Step back often to see what you are doing.
Good luck. It is a beautiful table.
