What should I do for car driving lesson in this case?

I have a driving test booked for 8.17am next week. Because of the driving test backlog, I had to find a test in another test centre that my driving instructor is unwilling to take me to. So, I have looked into hiring an Arnold Clark dual control car for the test and luckily, there is an Arnold Clark store right in the city that my driving test is scheduled in? However, the store opens at 8am and you can only begin hiring the car from 8am but my test is at 8.17am and it's not like I can hire the car overnight. So, what should I do? I am not sure if I would be able to make it.

It doesn’t sound like this is going to work out.

I would

  1. contact Arnold Clark and see what they say. They might have a solution.
  2. look for other companies that hire cars for tests. If you say where your test is, people might know somewhere.
  3. if you can’t, I’d sit the test in your dad’s car. Like people are saying, you have to make sure it’s got a mirror and is roadworthy. Get the tyres checked. And you have to be able to do all those ‘open the bonnet and show me…….. questions’ You can always retake your test in a manual car later if you want but at least you will either pass and be able to drive automatics or you will have had some test practice.

Can you offer the instructor that doesn’t want to go there, a significant extra amount of money for the inconvenience if s/he is willing to make an exception? Driving tests are horrendously difficult to get so it would be worth your while to offer a major incentive to him/her - such as an extra £100.
