So we found out a few weeks ago that our kitchen has a pipe leak under the floor.
The insurance company sent out a contractor to trace and assess it 2 weeks back.
It’s coming from the rising cold feed in our central island, which houses a double sink, dishwasher and unit drawers for cutlery and storage etc. There’s water apparently over quite a large area under our vinyl flooring.
Insurance company has said whole island needs taking out and digging down for leak, fix pipe and reinstate island and flooring.
I’m very stressed about it all and we also have an adult son who is autistic, and so I want the whole process to happen as quick as possible all at the same time, without weeks in between each job (the pipe leak probably won’t be fixed by kitchen fitters), so they’ll need to come after island’s removed etc.
The insurance company sent me an email suggesting we choose our own kitchen fitting company as they said their water leak company won’t refit a ‘high spec’ kitchen. I thought that would all be way too stressful and so asked if they had contractors themselves they could use. They said yes, and I asked their company name.
Then I looked at their trustpilot reviews!!
Tons of reviews and 41% are 1 star 😩😬.
Absolutely awful reviews!
People saying never ever use this company!
So I emailed insurance people to ask they hold off until me and DH chat tonight.
DH didn’t really listen to me relaying the info from phone call with insurance company and said if we choose our own kitchen fitters, we would be fully responsible if they bodged it /couldnt sort it etc. Plus he said it won’t be project managed by the company, as it would be if we used insurance contractors.
He says we need to go with the sh*t company and said he won’t read the reviews.
Should I stick to my guns and use a company I find myself, end up stressed, but then be blamed if it all goes wrong, or tell DH to arrange it all and use the company we already know are useless? 😬🤷♀️
As an autism mum, I’m shattered most of the time already and my brain isn’t telling me what is the best option!
Anybody had experience choosing their own insurance claim kitchen people/builders etc?
Is there anything helpful I’ve not considered?
