Please can I have some restaurant recommendations for a weekday or Saturday lunch? 4 woman celebrating a special birthday. No vegetarians, no vegans, no GF or allergies. Ideally somewhere we can sit and chat and not be rushed. Somewhere with good food but not £££££. Thank you

San Carlo Cicchetti in Covent Garden. The truffle gnocchi is sublime.

What sort of food?

The Garden Museum Cafe (it’s not just a museum café)

Excellent seasonal food in a lovely central London spot on the river, and very relaxed yet feels special. Quiet for central in the week I’d imagine they wouldnt rush you. And the museum is sweet too.

Follow with a wander along to the south bank for more drinks on the terrace of Forzawine in National Theatre.

Garden Café - Garden Museum

The award-winning Garden Café at the Garden Museum serves up a daily menu of modern-British and European, light, fresh and seasonal dishes.

Zedel just off Piccadilly- the ballroom style basement feels very decadent and they can do all levels of budget.

Seconding the Garden Museum café.
I also recommend the Portrait restaurant which sits at the top of the National Portrait Gallery and gives a great view of Nelson's Column.
A couple of months ago I had a terrific lunch at Rabbit on the King's Road. Worth a look if you aren't tied to central London.

The Ned All you can eat Sunday Buffet? Friends raves about it, but haven't been yet.

Dishoom, but you need to book a table if you want a guaranteed space

I'm very fond of The Port House on the Strand for lovely tapas. Remarkable to find such a decent place in that location. Been there heaps of times with friends.
