632km solo drive tomorrow- SO EXCITED

I have always loved long distance open highway driving. The arrival of my kids has put a dampener on it because they are so annoying in the car. But tomorrow, it’s just me heading south down Queenland’s coast.

  1. I can sing loudly in my off key voice
  2. I control the radio, music and air conditioning
  3. Won’t have to stop every 30 minutes for DD1’s peanut sized bladder
  4. Can stop at the cafe I like, not the horrible one DH and the kids like that has mummified food in a greasy hot box
  5. DH doesn’t get to mess with my driver seat settings during driver changes
  6. I’ve downloaded a Malory Towers audible book.

Bliss, just bliss. Then I catch up with an old friend for 3 days and after that, get to do the beautiful journey home.

That sounds like heaven! What will you be listening to? I loved that drive. Where are you heading?

Oh that sounds like bliss, what are you driving and where is this?

Fuck no, I hate long drives. I regularly drive 5 hours to Pitlochry (5 hour drive) to see my parents and I fucking hate it. There's traffic, it's boring, my leg and back hurt. I usually set off at about 4am and just try and smash it out.

I realised a long time ago that the part of my job, which involves lots of different things including site visits, that I like the most is when I drive somewhere on my own and spend most of the day driving and listening to podcasts.

Ultimate best day is when I have a couple of easy, short visits a decent distance away so it takes up the whole day and I don't have to do any office work and also that I have time for a proper pub/cafe lunch or at least fish and chips.

Spending the day driving down the Queensland coast sounds great. Make sure you take plenty of breaks - is there rest stops in scenic places?
