HRT patches and going on holiday.

Anybody got any tips. It’s my first holiday with an HRT patch and I have a vision of it floating off in the pool and attaching itself to some poor person bobbing about near me. Do I need more than my bikini bottoms to keep it attached to me?

It should be fine. Is the adhesion normally reliable?

Arlanymor · 14/07/2025 16:40

HRT patches are waterproof by design, which is why they stay on in the shower/bath etc. I think you'll be fine.

Chewbecca · 14/07/2025 16:47

HRT patches don't float off in the pool, you'll be fine.
Always take a couple of spare with you just in case, mind, and I always pack in my hand baggage as I wouldn't want to be without them if my luggage was lost 🤣

Mine have been fine on holiday in a hot place when I've swim every day in the sea or pool, and had baths and showers every day.
Are you finding that yours don't stick well and is that why you're worried?

Luluissleeping · 14/07/2025 17:12

Try these. Stick one over the patch.

Not sure if pic shows but is Freestyle Libre patches from Amazon.

Cannedlaughter · 14/07/2025 20:08

Thank you. They stay on fine normally, but wondered if they may not last when I’ll probably be in the pool most of the day with my grandson. I think I’ll take some of the cover patches with me just in case they start coming loose.

I don't want to derail, but I'm curious what happens to people if they don't wear their patch for a while?

VenusClapTrap · 14/07/2025 22:01

Just don’t do what I did, and forget to sun cream your thigh, and end up with an HRT patch shape tan mark, that will now be with me all summer 🙄

MiddleAgedDread · 14/07/2025 22:07

Take loads of spares, I went through nearly one a day on holiday between being sweaty, swimming and showering etc! That said, I could never get them to stay stuck that well when not on holiday. The gel suits me much better and no patchwork skin!

Your symptoms would return, eg hot flushes.

Ilovelowry · 14/07/2025 22:19

OP i swim several times a week and at worst, the very edges become unstuck.

You could take a couple of spares though as pps have suggested.

I'm going away next week and will take one spare. I'm only swimming and no beach. And I put mine on my bum so no suncream issue!

CampCrow · 15/07/2025 13:16

I use everol patches and swim almost every day and often shower multiple times a day and they never ever fall off.

GoldDuster · 15/07/2025 13:46

I find that I get irritation under mine if I'm doing a lot of swimming so take spares.

After how long, roughly?

99victoria · 15/07/2025 19:34

I've just come back from 2 weeks in Greece - swam every day in the pool and the sea, at least 2 showers a day as it was HOT. My everol patches stayed on perfectly well, I just changed them as normal (ie twice a week)

Cannedlaughter · 15/07/2025 22:32

Thank you for the tips and reassurance. Good call about spares and taking them in your hand luggage

Depends on so many things. Could be as quickly as 24 hours. At one point my hormones were all over the place so if I forgot to use my oestrogen gel that day I’d have night sweats that night. It’s calmed down now.

Movinghouseatlast · 16/07/2025 22:47

I swim on holiday at least 3 times a day. They stay on as normal.

Hey OP ..
I was on the estradot patches until 1 month ago , & have switched to the lazetto spray , ( think that’s what it’s called ) in bed , haven’t a notion of getting up to check 😂 ..
Anyway, delighted I switched , 3 sprays on your forearm every day & off you go ..
The patches are painful 🙄, if you’re wearing tight jeans , I found would come off , go for a shower every day, & still have that dirty sticky black rim around patch ..
Anyway , hope you have a lovely holiday 😎

Cannedlaughter · 16/07/2025 23:03

Thank you Miss, I will ask about that at my next appointment.
the glue is ridiculously strong, I ended up buying alcohol wipes and still have to give the squares a heck of a rub!
