When its the last few days of school before they break up for summer. The school are doing trips, actives and simlar. If the child doesn't go to school does it still go down as unauthorised?

Of course it will.

If you want to go on holiday or whatever... do it and accept the consequences, of which there is none really for a couple of days.

Holymotherforkingshirtballs · 13/07/2025 17:39

Just phone them in sick.
Terrible advice most of the year but the last couple of days of the summer term aren't vital.

No idea why schools found here are still doing Mon and Tues ( 23rd is start of the holidays). Should be insets.

My daughters school were due to finish Tuesday lunchtime - they did this last year and I believe there were many missing children. They asked parents for feedback and the overwhelming response was change it to the Friday before.

What i dont understand is if the school take my child to thorpe park on Tuesday its authorised. But if I take my child there on the same day its unauthorised. Thats an example im not going thrope park.

Because a fun experience with school is bonding and totally different. You’ll have 6 weeks with them for family bonding. My dc see the end of year trip as the best day of the year and love the memories with friends. I’m not against taking dc out of school (I did at primary) but thinking it’s the same school trip v family trip is not the case. Dc in Thorpe park at secondary explore without the adults so it’s about independence as well as fun.

HerVagestyTheQueef · 13/07/2025 18:03

Yes it'll be unauthorised, but what bugs me is that they tend to do bugger all work for the last week or so, so I tend not to feel guilty if I've kept a DC off for not wanting to go on the school trip, or taken them off early for a holiday.

Chewbecca · 13/07/2025 18:09

Of course.

It's good for them to do some fun stuff in school too.

Exactly dd is the same she doesn't want to go on the school trip. Its not enjoyable for every child.

I must tell DDs there's no work in the last week... they are busy revising for their maths tests they both have this week.

Only Friday is a fun day.

MrsGuyOfGisbo · 13/07/2025 18:13

We always took them out the last week -just phoned in ‘sick’. Could didn’t have to lie as not back until September. School doesn’t care -less admin for them anyway.

Hercisback1 · 13/07/2025 18:14

notanothersummercold · 13/07/2025 18:16

As an attendance officer, l'd rather a parent rang in sick at this time of year - even if l knew they were lying. Less admin for me!

Well that’s fine if they actually have work that needs to be done. Or even some trips out.
Often it’s just killing time in class until the end.
