Amazon saying item delivered but it hasn't been?

Long time amazon prime user at this address, thankfully never had any issues with delivery in the past so usually the drivers can find my address without issue. Was expecting an expensive item as well as smaller items delivered today. I was in my office that overlooks the street all afternoon during delivery slot times and no amazon van can up the street. An email popped up on my PC saying my items were delivered, handed to resident. I didn't receive anything went outside just to check although I knew the van hadn't been up the street.

Amazon are saying I need to wait until Tuesday before they will check up on it for me. I think this is really poor, I think if it was just not delivered I would at least know it was still in the system but as it is won't they just say oh well we have it marked as delivered so too bad? There is no photo of my door or anyone else's for that matter. I Just can't see why this has happened either no driver hasn't found my address before and if their is another issue why not just tell me the delivery has been delayed? Also who would take in several parcels they hadn't ordered? I can see taking in one item or taking in an item that was for your neighbour but why take in multiple large packages where you don't know the person?

so annoying!

This happened to me a couple of times. One time I eventually found the package flung into a flower bed. The other time I got a refund.

I think the delay on their part is to give you time to stumble on the package if it has been erratically delivered. In my experience they don't make any trouble at all about the refund once you have waited the required period.

I agree that it isn't good enough. It would be fair enough if the delivery drivers weren't so severely rushed, and they had time to always place the package properly, or wait for your door to open. But it isn't fair to expect you to wait as a result of the poor delivery practices that they themselves encourage by settingsuch immense targets for drivers.

I ordered 2 cameras (costing over £700) By far the most expensive thing I've ever ordered from Amazon. They said they had delivered them when I was out, but the address they gave doesn't even exist (no 187 in a close of 12 houses). Amazon were fine, refunded without quibbling, but I often wonder what happened to those cameras...

wetsiper · 13/07/2025 15:43

@PlasticAcrobat I think I'd be ok with the delay if there was even the chance to register that it hadn't turned up immediately after this happened but it doesn't give you that option just a chatbot saying wait until Tuesday. I also appreciate the drivers are overworked but even just a message saying sorry its been delayed would be better. Hopefully it does show up later today or tomorrow and it is reassuring to know they aren't difficult about refunds.

@Controversiallyyours Yeah that is a strange one, mine says delivered to my address and handed to me but the van was never even up my street at time of supposed delivery. Very strange in both cases!

Sometimes the drivers falsely mark parcels as delivered when they're running out of time, then they deliver them the next day. Unfortunately Amazon never seem to care that this happens

PlasticAcrobat · 13/07/2025 15:53

Yes, i agree that the chatbot options aren't as good as they could be. Also, I don't know if it is just me being rubbish, but I never find it easy to locate the chatbot when I need to use it. You do get the feeling that they are putting minor bumps in the road in the hope that you never get as far as actually requesting the refund.

pizzaHeart · 13/07/2025 15:58

We had this a few times. Once
the item was placed between recycling boxes, I found it completely by accident. Once it was delivered to a similar address say to 65 Piccadilly road instead of 65 Piccadilly street. And twice it was delivered to a completely different address and was brought to us by people who lived there.

wetsiper · 13/07/2025 16:03

@StrokeCity I suppose if this happens they get put back on the van to be delivered the next day? I wouldn't mind this if I could actually track them.

@PlasticAcrobat Yeah it does feel like they are creating more friction for this. Amazon customer service used to be really great but its been getting worse and worse in recent years.

@pizzaHeart That was good it was brought round by the people who took it in. I totally get that people can be left taking in items they don't realise aren't for them or a person living there because sometimes the parcels are dumped or the driver just hands you the parcel and runs. I think this is less likely for multiple parcels but fingers crossed it turns up!

How long ago did this happen? I've had Amazon drivers mark things as delivered in a few hours before they were before.

Had this as well.

I think they tend not to do this as much as people here are fairly quick to complain when it happens and to make sure amazon know what's happened even if items turn up next day.

pizzaHeart · 13/07/2025 16:21

I would also go to your Amazon account and check for a photo, they go it sometimes.

JessicaTookMyLunch · 13/07/2025 16:32

I get notified that Amazon will deliver between say 2.15 and 5.15 but then I also get a "see where your package is on the map" notification and click into that, it shows my address as a pin on a map and exactly where the Amazon van or car is and how many stops away so 6 stops. It means you know you can go for a wee and not miss the delivery. I am always waiting at the door the second the map says "you are the next stop" and I can see the car moving on the map. Is this because I am on the app?

Anything expensive we have a one time code to give to the driver. I hope your parcel turns up. My account has exact directions on because my house isn't obvious and everyone delivering Amazon finds me.

wetsiper · 13/07/2025 16:46

@JessicaTookMyLunch Most of the time I get this as well, the map with your delivery is x stops away but today it wasn't available on my tracking page. This happens occasionally but in the past even when this isn't available my delivery is delivered. I also had a delivery slot between 2 and 4pm. It just didn't show up even though it says delivered. I have had the delivery code as well for expensive tech items but it wasn't a tech items today so for whatever reason they didn't give me a code.

@pizzaHeart I've checked all that no photo.

Me and my partner have just had this discussion. Waited in all day for two items but no tracking when usually is.

But the last few weeks deliveries from different couriers have all been delayed so not sure what's going on. Oh and we're still waiting for our parcels today too.

wetsiper · 13/07/2025 18:23

@ThisChirpyFox I suppose because of Prime Day deliveries can be delayed which I understand if I am notified but this isn't great. Again increasing issues with Prime and Amazon in general, rising prices an reduced quality and service. I am unlikely to renew my prime subscription when it expires and I'll shop around in future.

Smeagolian · 14/07/2025 19:19

Have you received your item @wetsiper ? I've had the same issue today - high price item marked as "handed to resident" but not delivered to us/neighbours/safe place and no photo evidence supplied.

wetsiper · 14/07/2025 19:21

@Smeagolian No not yet, I have to wait until tomorrow before amazon will do anything to investigate or refund. I hope your item shows up soon!

I was unimpressed today. Ordered a new printer in the prime day sale. I have the unlocked garage as my default safe space. I was in, they never rang the doorbell, but left what was clearly a boxed up new printer in my drive, in clear view of passers-by. I’m lucky that this is a low crime area, so it was still there when I went hunting for it later.

Same - have to wait till Wednesday.
They've always been great on the (very!) few occasions it happened over the past 5-7 years, but it's the first time it happened with an expensive item so I'm a little anxious. Keep us posted please!

wetsiper · 14/07/2025 19:27

@Smeagolian I'll let you know, apparently refunds are usually given out freely but I'll be annoyed if I have to reorder it all and lose my prime day discounts.

Sorry to resurrect this but the same has happened to me today with a coffee machine I bought in the prime sale. Did it turn up or did you get a refund? If the latter did they let you reorder and honour the sale price?

wetsiper · 09/10/2025 20:05

Hi I forgot about this thread! Yes I did get it eventually . It was showing as delivered and I was in contact with amazon to get the items replaced or refunded and then it just randomly got delivered about a week late. No idea what the issue had been.
