Tutor for 8-year-old with adhd. Where to find?

DS has ADHD and struggles to concentrate at school and has a lot of demand avoidance.

Because he isn’t listening or learning at school, and his school is a bit shit, I want to find him a tutor over the summer to get him up to where he needs to be, and am also looking to move him to a different school.

Anyone ever done this? Found a tutor who is good at teaching kids with ADHD? How did you find them?

He is very bright. Just cannot listen when he’s bored and can’t sit still and also is very impulsive.

I would start with local FB groups on EBSA, demand avoidance, SEN kids, maybe home education because a lot of people end up there when their child cannot cope in mainstream school. It may be quite a lot per hour, and if you are after someone who understands demand avoidance you also need to be very patient if the rate of progress seems slow. With mine I would expect to be still easing into it 6 weeks into their relationship.

Follow his lead. He needs to go into Sept well rested to cope with the challenge of the new school.

I am assuming that you need a tutor to cover for school and not 11+ prep. I know someone, she is in Kent, where are you based?

Local Facebook groups are good places to look for a tutor. Be clear that you are looking for face to face support from someone with a hands on approach to learning. I am a tutor and support lots of children who have a similar profile to your son. Many of my tutor colleagues work in a similar way, whilst others may focus on SATs prep/ 11 plus etc. The right person will be out there though.
