Where to stay in Shropshire?

Hi - am looking to book a weekend away in September in Shropshire for 3 couples. I've never been to the area, but am currently looking at Ironbridge or Telford - can anyone recommend either town or somewhere else in the region where we can base ourselves please?

Church Stetton is lovely - there's the Long Mynd for walking. Plenty of shops and restaurants. I stayed for a week in a cottage - dog friendly.

Shrewsbury is more picturesque than Telford, lots of shops for mooching, lovely old buildings, places to eat etc and only 20 minutes from Telford. Ironbridge is lovely, lots of nice walks, but quite small. And again is about 20 miles from Shrewsbury. Bridgnorth is also nice, again a market town but I think Shrewsbury has more going on.

Church Stretton, Ludlow, Bridgnorth to the south or Ellesmere is also lovely but further north. If you want somewhere busier go to Shrewsbury. There's some nice bars and restaurants there and the River Severn. Telford is quite a built up 'new town' area which id avoid if you want somewhere pretty and typical Shropshire 🙂

Yes, I love Bridgnorth - lovely shops and eateries.

Shrewsbury has far more coffee places and restaurants than Telford.
