Scaffolding - would you leave your bedroom window open overnight?

I’ve got scaffolding up, front and back of the house. It’s meant to be pretty hot here over the next few days, and in previous spells of hot weather I’ve had the windows open overnight (my bedroom is on the 2nd floor).

Would you leave windows open overnight with scaffolding up?

We’ve recently had scaffolding up and how close it was to the house meant that we could only open the windows a couple of inches anyway so no way anyone could fit through! If it was more than that though I don’t think I’d have felt comfortable leaving them open.

CheeriosOrFrosties · 09/07/2025 22:18

The scaffolding is up so windows can be replaced, so there is a big enough gap to open the window fully.

We have scaffolding up and windows are firmly closed (sash). We live right on a road though

DustlandFairytaleBeginning · 09/07/2025 22:22

No... I don't think I could relax to sleep this way. I wont open our window overnight as the window as a sloped roof underneath it of the downstairs which sticks out further and I always feel like someone could climb it if they were determined.

Poopeepoopee · 09/07/2025 22:23

no

CreteBound · 09/07/2025 22:24

Meh I sleep in a downstairs room with the window open.

mynameiscalypso · 09/07/2025 22:24

We had this problem a few weeks ago in the last heatwave. We decided not to open the windows, there’s no way I would have been able to sleep otherwise.

WhistlingStraits · 09/07/2025 22:26

Yes. I would not be remotely concerned.

TwinklyNight · 09/07/2025 22:26

Your home is as safe as it's weakest link.
So no way!

StaySpicy · 09/07/2025 22:28

No way.

My parents had a burglary a couple of years ago where the burglar came into their bedroom while they slept and took jewellery etc. A horrible thought and not something I would want to make any easier for someone.

MalcolmMoo · 09/07/2025 22:29

No! We’re in a bungalow and I can’t sleep with our windows open as I worry someone will jump in! It’s a doer upper so windows will be replaced soon to be more narrow so no one can jump in. We’re in a really safe area as well but I’m just too scared.

Throwingpots · 09/07/2025 22:29

Funny you should say this, I’m in an Airbnb in France atm. Laying here with window open just curtains pulled across. It’s a busy square outside and I’m on the ground floor. But it’s too hot not to have window open so I’m trying not to think about it 😬😁

ninjahamster · 09/07/2025 22:32

I would. Surely you would wake up if somebody tried to climb through the window?

Lonelycrab · 09/07/2025 22:35

Surely it depends very much on where you are.

My first flat in Peckham, pretty obvious what the answer is.

Somewhere quiet and in a relatively safe low crime area, quite possibly.

HarkerandBarker · 09/07/2025 22:42

No.

CheeriosOrFrosties · 09/07/2025 22:44

Thanks for the replies. It’s not worth the risk, is it? A couple of sweaty nights is doable, but I would be gutted for a long time if someone managed to get into the house. Windows firmly shut.

Well, I've got scaffolding up , and have had for the past 8 weeks , and my bedroom window is open as normal.

It is a tilt and turn window though so if any one did have any thoughts about climbing in it would be difficult for them.

Hopefully the scaffolding will be down in a couple of days - can't wait.

Douane · 10/07/2025 01:08

We sleep on the second floor and not only close the windows downstairs at night or if we're not home for the day, but we lock them too.
If somebody wants to climb into your bedroom at night, why make it easy for them to do that?
Answer is "no".

Donotgiveashit · 10/07/2025 01:13

Had scaffolding up last week. We had windows open…we have a very attentive dog!

confusedlots · 10/07/2025 01:19

Oh I couldn’t sleep with a window open at all for the thought of all the insects coming in!

VegQueen · 10/07/2025 01:36

Yes we had scaffolding the other week when it was really hot. Still opened the windows, but I have a barky dog who definitely would alert us if someone was climbing up there.

CheeriosOrFrosties · 10/07/2025 22:57

I don’t have a choice tonight - one of them won’t shut!
