How much for a thank you/reward?

Just about to go and pick my husband’s phone up from an honest citizen who found it this morning when it fell out of his bike pannier. Should I offer some money as a thankyou/reward? And if so, how much? We’re in London, if that makes a difference… 🙏

I don't think you should feel obligated to give a reward
You could offer ÂŁ100 or ÂŁ50

Enough to buy a pizza/take away so ÂŁ15-ÂŁ20

I wouldn’t take a reward, this happened to me once.

Me and the father of the DD were arguing on the doorstep about my it accepting anything. I wouldn’t benefit from someone’s mistake. I told him he could donate it to a homeless charity if he wanted, that’s my charity of choice.

But certainly no more than ÂŁ20 would I offer the other way round.

MayaPinion · 09/07/2025 15:53

I’d say £20.

ÂŁ20 sounds nice x

I found a mobile on a coastal path about 15 years ago, luckily the owner was only about 20 mins further along the path & we were headed that way. They gave me ÂŁ10 which was lovely as it was enough to buy DH (then DP) & I a pint each in the pub & an ice cream from the corner shop so we were chuffed as we were poor students. With inflation I'd say about ÂŁ20 today would be fine?

Thanks all! I ended up giving them £30. It was a woman who didn’t speak very much English and her very sweet young teenager son who translated for us, so hopefully they can get a bit of a treat for themselves. Faith in humanity restored!
