Hot tub on campsite - yeah or nay?

We're going camping over the weekend and the site has a hot tub that you can hire. On the one hand I really want to do it because it would be a bit of fun, but on the other hand, I'm a bit concerned about it and wonder if it's a bit icky. How do I know if they keep it clean? There's a photo of it but just from a distance from the outside. It's quite expensive to rent for a few hours or so - £60.

Would you?

Yeah, sorry but I wouldnt be able to relax enough to enjoy it unless I'd seen it be cleaned thoroughly with my own eyes.

yellowdress34 · 09/07/2025 15:01

I know what you mean . I am so torn!

I love the idea but it's just all those dark jet holes. The tub could look spotless but I can't help thinking about what may be lurking inside. 😯

We went away to a log cabin not too long ago, there was 10 of us. I was pregnant so couldn't use the hot tub, and I was the only member of the group not to get a suspicious illness and rash everywhere 🤦🏻‍♀️ turned out to be hot tub folliculitis! So happy I couldn't go in haha

RunningInto · 09/07/2025 15:07

Please no its such a waste of water and bad for the environment. When we were all on hose pipe bans and Cornwall was seriously at risk of not having enough drinking water the campsites were still filling hot tubs and there was nothing stopping them.

murasaki · 09/07/2025 15:07

Ah, a chlamydia sex pond. Lovely.

TheFlis · 09/07/2025 15:08

How would it be any different from using one at a spa in terms of cleanliness?

murasaki · 09/07/2025 15:20

I suspect people in a spa are more likely to have showered first, and it'd be cleaned more regularly.

Myfridgeiscool · 09/07/2025 15:23

Sounds like a lovely idea but no. Bacteria haven. No thanks.

Needspaceforlego · 09/07/2025 15:26

Do they put chlorine in the water?

I'm thinking this must be one of the blow up ones, so they bring it to you and fill it near your pitch?

The only question is how do they clean the actual hot tub which won't be so much of an issue if they put chlorine in it.

No, it's a built in one under some kind of wooden hut type structure.

On balance, considering all your replies, I've decided to pass!!! I thought I was just being a bit precious but it really is actually quite risky in reality.

The amount of water they use is appalling as they are emptied and refilled between bookings.

Needspaceforlego · 09/07/2025 15:42

So it's a hard solid one. Probably no different to one in a spa.

And no hottubs are not emptied and refilled between bookings, any lodge with a hottub, the guy goes round every day checking them top them up (my kids splash around sending water everywhere).

😂 They really aren’t.

BotterMon · 09/07/2025 16:23

Disgusting things wherever they are. Like sharing bathwater. A 'public' one in a campsite sounds a perfect breeding ground of yuck.

Fatmumslim01 · 09/07/2025 16:25

Germ soup surely 🤮

OutingHobbyWife · 09/07/2025 16:45

Looking at the forecast you might be better booking an ice bath Grin

Lonelycrab · 09/07/2025 16:48

Big fat nay from me 🤢

Yes. Last week I checked and it said the weather was quite cool, but I heard a woman in the car park literally this afternoon, after I started this thread, telling her son it was going to be red hot this weekend!!

Its a basically a small heated swimming pool.

One that's rented by the hour won't be refilled each time, they take hours to get up to temp!

They really should be! For all the filthy reasons other people have given.
