Gym Tops - Tight but not cropped?

FlappyFish · 08/07/2025 11:42

I feel like I am trying to find the impossible. May just be me.

I am trying to find racer back or tank tops for the gym that are form fitting but not cropped. Most seem to be looser round the middle and it drives me crazy whilst doing weights. Not bothered by brand. Bonus point is if they have a built in bra. (I’m size 6/8 and have no chest anymore!)

Thanks!

No built in bra, but I always found the Sweaty Betty athlete vest quite good.

Came here to recommend the Sweaty Betty vests as well. I have a few random Nike and Adidas ones which meet the brief. I’m tall so always looking for longer length tops.

To love my Nike x Emma Willis ones from Next.

BAM vests are really nice. The Mallea cross back vest, whilst lovely, is indecent at the sides if you have more than a B cup! https://bambooclothing.co.uk/category/womens-bamboo-clothing/womens-tops/vest-tops/

I have that Mallea cross back vest by BAM. I love it and it fits perfectly but it’s very difficult to take off if you get too sweaty!

Thanks all. I’ve ordered one of each to give them a go.

I like the tank tops from Women's Best. Shelf bra, down to the top of my hips.

The fabric is lovely, and that pistachio colour is gorgeous.

I've got this one - it comes to just the waist

Both of them, I do heavy weights and metcon or HIIT in them. Nothing moves! Although I'm pretty flat-chested - I wear a S or M, as a size 12.

I love Black Diamond, Moon or Patagonia racer back tops for exercising in, they are great quality and often on sale.

ParmaVioletTea · 09/07/2025 09:11

But those ones are loose around the midriff @NoEffingWay and the OP has said she finds that annoying. I agree - when I'm squatting or deadlifting really heavy weights I want everything about me locked down tight!

@FlappyFish I've also found nice tank tops with shelf bras and to waist or hip in Primark of all places! THe fabric isn't as nice as the premium brands like Oner, Women's Best, or Gymshark, but they do the job.

I just wish I could find sports bra type tops which are longer - no-one needs to see my slightly flabby white midriff. The tank top style in Women's Best brand is my best purchase so far, and I can run & jump in them as well as lift.

FlappyFish · 09/07/2025 09:23

@ParmaVioletTea the cheap Primark Tanks are great to be fair. I live in the them. The more toned I get the less I care about the last bits of remaining loose skin.

Sounds like we have similar situations. I had never heard of women’s best and there’s some great stuff there.

exercise as my new addiction is costing a fortune. 😂

Yes it does cost a fortune! I pay a personal trainer rather than buy fashion shoes or employ a cleaner.

But think how good it is for you, and how you'll age with good mobility and strength. My PT says his aim is that when I'm 80 if I fall I can jump up, just like the burpees he makes me do.

I have 2 of those tank tops from Women's Best - I'm thinking of getting all the colours! They're the only "premium" brand that does supportive tanks I can run in. I don't like having to wear a sports bra, then a top over it. Too hot & impossible to take off after a sweaty work out. Those tanks do the trick, and the fabric is nicer than the Primark vests I have.
