History supa curricular expectations for top unis : personal statement help

Hello ,

Ds wants to study history and is grade wise aligned with the top unis...expected min 3 x a at least one a star hopefully.

He helps to run the history club and also received the history prize this year.

Aside from extracurricular reading is there anything else top uni would expect of him. He thinks tons more I don't he runs the club. Won a prize so his school clearly rate him and he reads around subject.

I don't think he need to panic but I realise I do not really know.

Essay competitions, attending lectures or conferences, following podcasts ?

I mean there is passion and passion I adore history and English I did loads of reading for fun from an early age I read a book on Elizabeth 1st but I didn't run clubs or win prizes ( didn't get into top uni either )

I’m sure he would be fine but internal prizes may not carry as much weight externally. A lot of unis don’t look beyond the pg though.

He could enter the Julia Wood History Essay Competition (currently open, run by St Hugh's, Oxford) - closing date is 23 July, I think.

If he is Y12, then there is the Robert Robson prize, run by Trinity College, Cambridge. Closing date is 1 August.

At least acknowledging that he had entered these might show a keen interest in History.
