Do narcissists know they’re narcissists?

I have a friend who is lovely but over the past year she has said a few things that are increasing red flags. She peaked over the weekend when she was talking about her family members and then she behaved in a way that shocked me TBH. She was very wrapped up in herself and I don’t think she realises how she she comes across. But yes, it’s classic narcissistic behaviour but also she would be mortified if she realised she was a narc.

I read about all the deliberate games that narcs play and my friend isn’t like this. So can you be an accidental narcissist or do you have to know you’re a narcissist and deliberately be a twunt to be a true narcissist?

If she’s only just displayed that behaviour over the past yet then she isn’t a narcissist. NPD is a diagnosed condition. She’s just self absorbed.

Everyone can display narcissistic tendencies at times. We can all become self absorbed at different times in our lives sounds like she is self absorbed

Many people have strong narcissistic traits that makes them very difficult to be in relationships with/work with but would not be diagnosed they are just self absorbed selfish people

Do people know? sometimes, sometimes not. Some accept their diagnosis (which few people are actually diagnosed or reach the threshold) others do not (as they know better)

Most self involved peopled have little self awareness

I think this is it. What she did was incredibly selfish and it affected someone else who was inconvenienced by it, even when they’d asked her not to do it.

there are lots of conditions similar such as bipolar or just being self absorbed. from what youve said doesnt sound like a narcist
