I give in: I need something more supportive than flip flops

What shall I buy? I live in flip flops thought the summer, but have to admit age is catching up with me and I need something with a more supportive sole and possibly arch support. I’ve always had pretty basic style ones like Havaianas, are Fit Flops worth the money? What would you suggest for a totally different comfortable open toed shoe?

Fit flops can be amazing- but there are different types so you may need to know what to get. need the impact support you get in crocs, so I like iQuosh.

WildCherryBlossom · 07/07/2025 07:40

Birkenstocks?

WildCherryBlossom · 07/07/2025 07:41

I can walk and stand for hours in my Birkenstocks (I cannot run for a bus in them though)

ladycardamom · 07/07/2025 07:42

I find Velous the best, they're expensive and not very glamorous sadly.

TweedTorso · 07/07/2025 07:42

I'll second Archie's, they are great! Normal flip flops would have me in agony but these have the arch support. Saying that, I love Birkenstocks and Fit Flops too.

Rollerboots · 07/07/2025 07:45

Definitely go for fit flops!
get ones that don’t have the toe post though, your toes will claw to hold them on even if you don’t think you are, so something that’s secure on your foot is best .
You won’t wear anything else again!

@Lochroy I to live in flip flops, personally hat fit flops so ridged and uncomfortable worn them twice. Sketchers Go Walk Flip Flops are worth every penny full price but can often get them for £30. Just replaced a three year old pair, straight out the box first outing a city break, so bloody comfortable. They have arch and heel support built into the sole.

I was so sad to have to give up on my Haviana’s a few years ago. I now have Fitflop flipflops and they’re amazing!

Stressedoutmama123 · 07/07/2025 07:50

I have Birkenstocks and Archie’s have just arrived. Love my Birkenstocks and Archie’s seem good so far

Branleuse · 07/07/2025 07:52

Try skechers foamies arch fit sandals.
So comfortable. Ive got some plain black ones that are so comfortable. I have annoyingly fussy feet and have loads of shoes. These are supremely comfortable and go with practically anything

WinterOnItsWayOut · 07/07/2025 07:53

I love Fig Flops and have toe post with back strap ones so you don’t ’cling on’ to them. My last pair I had 6 years and lived summers in them so totally worth the money. I have a new pair this year which are wearing in to mould to my feet. I’ve done 2 city breaks in them and no blisters//sorenness.

i have plantar fasciitis and they are brilliantly supportive

TaranFollt · 07/07/2025 07:54

I wear birkenstocks- there's different styles.
I've also recently bought DM sandals and I'm very impressed so far.

MyLifeMyChoices · 07/07/2025 07:59

My fit flops are over 9 years old and still going strong and comfortable.

KnewYearKnewMe · 07/07/2025 08:12

I’ve had two pairs of Archies for years and they are as good as always, and amazingly comfortable.

blackbaccara · 07/07/2025 08:16

Havianas are now too flat and thin for my dodgy knees. Replaced all mine with Fit Flop iqushion. Have loads of colours. Often on sale near end of summer. Super comfy and bouncy, could walk all day in them.

TokyoSushi · 07/07/2025 08:18

I have had Birkenstock Madrids for years. I’ve just got a pair of Birkenstock Madrid Eva (the ones that look like flip flops) they are SO comfortable - I love them!

Jins · 07/07/2025 08:21

Fitflops are great but my favourite pair of basic flip flops are Crocs Athens. I’m not sure if they still make that style but they do a few variations.
