Probably almost too late….!

becoming a racing drivers costs an incredible amount of money. Parents will be paying £00,000’s to fund their child in the early stages and working up through the more amateur teams.

many start in karting and then move onto cars

You need to be incredibly rich & work your way up through karting.

Young. Around the age of 7. And they're winning from that age.
Talent, money and family support have to align to take them towards the top.

There are so many karting tracks now - one close to me is mitcham on south south London. Is this the kind of karting?

I get is expensive but didn’t Hamilton come from a v poor family, so sponsorship is possible right?

dc is 7 nd likes karting… I’ve just got swept up on silverstone fever clearly 😂

But it doesn't mean your child couldn't focus on the engineering and mechanical side and aim for that.

That’s incredibly competitive and can in no way be considered a plan B

Not to mention there are plenty of other types of motorsport! BTCC (touring cars) rallying, porche cup, all sorts. If they like it, it’s a great career.

It’s pretty standard these days for aspiring F1 drivers to start carting at age 5 or 6. Verstappen started at age 4.
