Summer thunderstorms

I love a good old thunderstorm in the summer - anyone else?

We were forecast one today but we all pooh poohed it because we have not had one single drop of rain that's been forecast in our region for months.

Anyway, the forecast was actually true for once today and, oh my - the freshness of the air is something else!
Velux and skylights are firmly closed but all other windows are open to get rid of the stuffiness.

Wimbledon has rumbles of thunder so hang in there Londoners 🤞🏻

We have had plenty of rain in the north. I have just trudged out to the garden to rescue my washing from the latest deluge. I would rather have less rain!

SabreIsMyFave · 06/07/2025 13:39

I love them! Smile

Only thing I don't like however, is the power cuts, loss of internet, and loss of Freesat! 😬

I live rurally, and we ALWAYS get a power cut when it's very windy, or there is very heavy rain, or if there are thunderstorms.

Fortunately, power is usually restored within 2-4 hours. Freesat usually comes back shortly after. The internet can take a bit longer to come back on though! (Anything from 6-7 hours to a full day!)

stopringingme · 06/07/2025 13:51

We were forecast storms this morning and rain all day in south Lincolnshire - we got about an hours light rain this morning.

Seems to be the same story here 😅

East Midlands, some thunder and lots of heavy rain. The garden needs it and the air is fresher.
Bonus was ds getting up early and walking ddog. They did get wet but no complaints

Still forecast but really doesn’t look likely in East Kent. Would love it!

Also in EK here. The sky has gone very dark and there was one paltry rumble a few mins ago but nothing exciting.

I'm just back from southern France where we had an absolute cracker of a storm one evening; hours of forked lightning, very loud thunder and torrential rain. Then glorious blue skies then next day - proper weather!

Spotthering · 06/07/2025 14:22

We have had just half hour of rain and that was it. Think the storm has missed my part of NW London!

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 06/07/2025 14:24

Milton Keynes- suddenly got really close and muggy about 10am, then by 10.30 we had a large storm hit. Lasted about 45 minutes and was soooooo badly needed!

tinyspiny · 06/07/2025 14:24

Storm and plenty of rain in my part of Kent at the moment .

DH is playing cricket near Canterbury. He's been off and on the field twice but will probably end up wasting the afternoon waiting and playing a bit then still end up with the match abandoned but they can't call it yet. So tedious. Just bloody rain properly and we can get some of the day back. Grrrr.

Summerartwitch · 06/07/2025 14:27

I am on the Kent coast and we are having heavy rain and thunder. Good for my garden!

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 06/07/2025 14:32

We have had three proper
downpours but no storm yet. Still hopeful.

DappledThings · 06/07/2025 14:36

Really heavy black clouds just passing over and not actually leaving any rain. Useless!

BitSilly · 06/07/2025 14:49

Argh no, we’ve got bits of blue skies and the stupid humidity is back - boo!

No storms here in Derbyshire but did wake to the sound of rain this morning.... absolutely blissful

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 06/07/2025 14:51

Yes, just had one, with a good downpour - badly needed! Didn’t last long enough, sun out again now, but at least it’ll have filled up the water butts…

1000DayChallenge · 06/07/2025 15:17

I love rain and storms. Thoroughly enjoying this, and have all doors and windows wide open

MiloMinderbinder925 · 06/07/2025 16:06

Just heard thunder!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 06/07/2025 16:25

We got a couple of loud thunder rumbles then rain.
Back to sun now

The cats came tanking in, glared at the door with saucer like eyes and ran for cover !
They are adult ex feral , total wimps .

BitSilly · 06/07/2025 16:37

Oh hello - the rain is back! A truly glorious downpour!
