Anyone had a fixed breast lump that hasn’t been cancer

Discovered a lump in my breast this week. I’ve just come back from GP. She described at being 3x2 cm lump that is smooth and fixed and painless. Everything I read suggests that fixed lumps are cancer. I’m now waiting for breast clinic appointment. I’m in such a state. I’m 49 years old. Anyone else have a positive outcome from breast lump description like this.

Yes, I did OP.
It was a fibroadeoma but I’d poked at it so much it got very infected.

Bippertyboo2 · 04/07/2025 11:49

Yes, I did about twenty years ago. Good luck

DiscoBob · 04/07/2025 11:49

Yes. I've got one now and it hasn't really got any smaller. But it's just a cyst. Had mammogram and ultrasound and all clear.

My DH has one on his bollock also benign. Not the same thing obviously but lumps are very common.

80% of lumps seen at breast clinic are non cancerous. So statistically you're much more likely to not have it.

Yes. In the 80s. Fibroadenoma.

Yup. Radial sclerosing lesion. Had a lumpectomy and all good.

TheAutumnCrow · 04/07/2025 12:03

Yes, a lipoma. Fixed, not moveable - which is unusual, but not impossible.

All the time. Cysts. Have so many of them. If it is a cyst ask for it to be aspirated (drained) before the mammogram. The mammogram is less painful then IME

Mindymomo · 04/07/2025 12:07

Yes, mine was found after routine mammogram, fibroadenoma, a good few years ago now and I ask every time since if it’s still there, but they cannot tell me, but when I lay down the breast with the lump is more perkier.

Yes I did as a teenager. It was caused by my contraceptive pill.

I have several fibroadenomas, and I had a benign phyllodes tumour (so not cancer) which was removed.

lavenderjune · 04/07/2025 20:55

Thanks so much for replies. I think it’s the description of being fixed that is so worrying, Anyone else had a fixed lump that turned out to be benign particularly at my age(49) as I think fibroadema are more common in younger women

DD has a fibroadenoma the size of a plum and on removal they found one the size of a walnut behind it. In a 28A breast size, it was pretty disfiguring. It started off v small.

The clinic was very reassuring that the majority of lumps are benign.

There will be of course be women who have fixed benign lumps, but I don't think that knowledge will stop you worrying. They did everything at the clinic on the day and we had a pretty likely diagnosis before we left.

Yes, a fibroid-still there like a hard pea. Also a hard flatter raised area which was biopsies - again - nothing terrible I’m still healthy 25 yrs later. Hard not to worry - one of my friends has been referred numerous times over the years as she gets lots of breast cysts. Good luck 🤞

Did you get your referral through? I’m in the same situation, my anxiety is through the roof.

So sorry only just seen your message @wizzlebear. It was a benign cyst. Much smaller than the GP thought -1.5cm. Very relieved. Hope you don’t have to wait long for your appointment x

That’s great news. My appointment is this coming week, thankfully I have calmed myself down a bit. I’ve been to the breast clinic before and they were cysts but it’s nerve wracking.

Elektra1 · 20/07/2025 17:23

I had one. It was a cyst. Fingers crossed for you.
