Jacket potatoes getting smaller?

alexalisten · 03/07/2025 18:01

We had jacket potatoes with cheese and beans and salad for tea and they where from them bags of 4 and they where so small one is no way big enough to be a meal so me and partner had 2 each which was the right amount but im sure in the past 1 has been plenty each. Are they getting smaller or are we getting greedier.?

i think baked potato shops stop using big potatoes as they cost more energy to cook through. Spud man (arsehole) and spud bros normally serve one and a half potatoes with toppings so you don’t feel you’ve been cheated. I know the bags of four you mean and they’re quite small.

id advise in future buying loose potatoes as you can pick the size you want and they’re a lot cheaper than the bagged ones.

The dry weather has meant smaller potatoes this season.

I agree, I had the same thought this week! I did 2 between me and my 1 year old (I had 1.5 he had half!)

the loose ones are bigger but usually out of stock on Tesco online I find.

NewGoldFox · 03/07/2025 18:12

I think they are smaller now generally, like crème eggs!

Also why do people detest spudman?

TheCurious0range · 03/07/2025 18:14

I find baking potatoes are big in winter.

I also want to know what the deal is with spudman

Buzyizzy217 · 03/07/2025 18:16

Well yes of course they are. Not heard we have a climate crisis and the farming industry is struggling? Where’ve ya been? 🙄

They are definitely smaller. You are better off buying loose and choosing the size rather than buying a pack of 4

soupyspoon · 03/07/2025 18:18

I remember when Spudlike potatoes were as big as your head and also those vans which sold them

I cant eat potatoes anymore that much but I still lust after a massive one, with nearly a whole pack of butter and unlimited cheese mashed in. Oh god

They keep making everything smaller and then doubling the price

Is spud man just one man that everyone seems to hate? Or are there spud men?

JDM625 · 03/07/2025 18:34

It could be several things.

Lack of rainfall being 1. I would have thought most people in the UK eat them more in Autumn/Winter. I grow potatoes, but mine are currently only the size of golf balls/small apples. Maybe the larger UK spuds are available later in the year?

I was going to say this.

Clawdy · 03/07/2025 18:41

I'm afraid I always buy the McCains frozen baked spuds, they are nicer than the ones I used to bake, and they're a good size!

TBH- I never knew you could buy frozen, baked potatoes! 🤯

101Alsatians · 03/07/2025 18:58

I can't stand Spudman but don't know why! Did he 'do' anything?

failedatlifee · 03/07/2025 19:00

never mind smaller, every time i buy them they are completely rotten (online shop) so have to go in the bin! i’ve had to stop buying, wouldn’t mind them being smaller but they are completely inedible
