Ok everyone. I bought this hat for my holiday. I appreciate it’s probably not for everyone but I absolutely love it and it’s perfect for my holiday.

except… how do I get it on the holiday? How do I pack it??

Wear it to the airport?

murasaki · 03/07/2025 16:33

Can you lay it flat on the bottom of the suitcase and put rolled clothes round the head bit? Two edges may curve up a bit, but it's the best inch think of.

teddybearsbear · 03/07/2025 16:34

I always wear mine to the airport... even at 3 am 🤣

dudsville · 03/07/2025 16:37

Is it actual palm leaf? That can be reshaped, there are videos.

ThePoshUns · 03/07/2025 16:38

My hat is not quite as large but like others I wear it to the airport and have on my lap on the plane

LunaTheCat · 03/07/2025 16:45

I would attach a piece string to the underside of the crown… it will fly you to your destination.

Mulledjuice · 03/07/2025 16:47

I have a similar wide-brimmed hat. I stuff bikinis, underwear inside the crown, place the hat flat in the case and pack other items around it.

soupforbrains · 03/07/2025 16:54

@LunaTheCatthe thought had crossed my mind!

How will you see where you are going ? <<frets>>

MrsMoastyToasty · 03/07/2025 16:57

I had one that big (goodness knows why, I probably looked like a cartoon Mexican bandit!).
I packed it full of socks and pants.

I also left it behind because it was a bloody nuisance.

soupforbrains · 03/07/2025 16:58

@ThePoshUnsThe brim is 27 inches across it defo won’t fit on my lap on the flight.

it won’t fit flat in the bottom of the suitcase either but I think a combo Of @murasakiand @Mulledjuice’s suggestions will work and it’s definitely re-shapeable to a certain extent so as long as I don’t actually crease it I should be fine.

thanks for the suggestions I was struggling to picture a practical solution! I have a really methodical method for packing which I always use so it didn’t cross my mind to put the hat in FIRST.

@angelinawasrobbedi don’t really intend to wear it walking around. I intend to wear it while lounging about in the sun with a cocktail or while lounging about in the sun with my book. It means I can share my face and shoulders as well as the pages of my book without having to fuss with parasols of move to a different part of the deck. (Holiday is a cruise and then a land stay).

Hope it works, it is an excellent, if massive, hat.

Utterlyconfusednow · 03/07/2025 17:18

How did you bring it home when you bought it?

putitovertherefornow · 03/07/2025 17:20

Stuff the head part with socks & underwear etc, and lay it with the brim flat on the bottom of your suitcase, with any overspill coming up the side, like pastry in a pie dish. Pack everything else round it.

BashfulClam · 03/07/2025 17:25

I pack my case, make a small space and put the head part upside down into the space (so it’s like a bowl) then fill it with little items like socks, swimsuits. Etc
