5 hours to clean and soda crystals

I have a rare day off without children on Friday and want to use the time to deep clean and tidy the house as it's my biggest stress on a day to day basis.

Please share any tips on where to start or what would make the biggest difference so I use the time wisely and feel satisfied at the end of it.

There was a really useful thread recently but I can't find it... someone had recommended soda crystals so I bought some but now don't remember what to do with them!

Overall I try to stay on top of things (laundry always done, hoover most days, regular declutter) but quite superficially so it's the non-daily/deeper cleaning jobs I need inspiration for.

Thank you!

Could the soda cryatals be to clear drains?

For me I would start with the lounge and then go room by room.

I’d start with the ceilings and work down…

  • De-cobweb the ceilings
  • clean tops of kitchen cupboards
  • Take curtains down for washing
  • Clean any blinds (dust/hoover depending on type)
  • Do a deep hoover/clean of the sofa and armchairs.
  • Clean skirting boards and behind bigger items of furniture (sofa, sideboard etc)

Also descale the kettle, clean the oven, clean the hob and hood. Put the washing machine and dishwasher on cleaning cycles.

Clean and sort any hotspots eg cupboard under the stairs for me as shoes get chucked in there and always needs a good hoover.

I would get a cleaning kit together in a basket (lots of cloths and a spray.) set a timer for 20 minutes per room and tidy each one - lob all the mess into a carrier bag if necessary. Then vacuum and damp dust each room. Then do another round if necessary on the rooms that need revisiting (usually bathrooms and kitchen).

I put soda crystals in the washing machine on an empty 60 degree wash to clean it out.
