What do I want for my 50th birthday?

My dsis wants ideas. She lives overseas so it will have to be able to be ordered online. I think she'll be disappointed if I just ask for money or vouchers.
I'm a teacher, this time of year is super busy and I always forget it's my birthday coming up and get caught out with no ideas.
Dh is getting me a new watch and I've asked my dcs for one of the Lego flower sets.
I like reading, gardening (but don't want plants) and I'm extremely bad at treating myself so I would like something for me, a little bit luxurious maybe. I'm not especially fussed about clothes, don't wear a lot of jewellery...I don't think I'm very easy to buy for!

A summer house so that you can sit in your garden and read in any weather.

What's the budget

A friend got me a personalised plant pot - just a plain ceramic one with a simple engraving. I love it!

Is there a collection of books you'd like? Maybe ones you've read and loved, but a beautiful, decorative set.

Or maybe make a list of books you'd like to read and give that to your sister. You could ask her to send one a month for the next year so you get a lovely surprise in the post each month. Or she could send them all at once, but wrapped one for each month. Or if she has a huge budget give her a list of 52 books and she can send one a week!

Watching with interest as this will be me soon!
What's the budget?

mamaduckbone · 03/07/2025 22:14

Budget probably about £50... More if she joins forces with my mum and/or brother. Certainly not summer house territory, lovely though that would be @Bluebay!

I'm thinking about a bag, or some really luxurious bath/body stuff. One thing I do treat myself to without hesitation is books, probably because they aren't too expensive. I'm also woefully indecisive, which isn't helping.

I got a white company dressing gown from DM and DS, it’s great quality. I wouldn’t spend £80 odd on a dressing gown normally so I try to think of things like that. I love a massage too, that feels like an indulgence. I’d have a look on somewhere like John Lewis for bags, home decor/vases for inspo too

I was 50 a couple of years ago. I asked for money from various which I put towards a Mulberry purse - a bit of luxury and beauty that I use every day. People loved the idea and I love the purse which looks even better now than it did then.

Aesop stuff is really nice, and classy! They do a soap with little grainy bits in it. Sounds weird, but it's really lovely and gets your hands so soft. You could ask for that plus the matching hand lotion?

HippyKayYay · 03/07/2025 22:34

Or a nice chair for the garden?

For DH's 50th I got friends and family to club together so I get him a really nice set of a specific type of garden chair he loved.

All I wanted was a party and some time away!
Ive never flown before so I was surprised with a trip that involved a flight!

MerylSqueak · 03/07/2025 22:46

Someone recently posted a book subscription which sounded great. I can't remember the name but does that appeal?

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 03/07/2025 23:07

A spa day

PermanentTemporary · 03/07/2025 23:10

RHS membership?

Are you certain you don’t want plants? I want a lemon tree…

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 03/07/2025 23:10

Artwork for wall? I just spent £50 on a photo print on holiday .

Beepbird · 03/07/2025 23:26

My sister bought me a really simple pair of gold stud earrings-I wear them loads and every time I do, it makes me think of her.

Bedfolk do gorgeous soft towelling robes that are pricey but look amazing

CeciliaMars · 12/10/2025 07:14

L’occitane almond shower oil, big bottle of it. Or a nice perfume. If your budget was bigger, I was going to say an egg chair to sit and read in the garden. Happy birthday!
