To cut a long story short. Dream job can up and I was luck to get an interview as over 100 applied. 3 interview stages and it’s down to be and one other candidate. Last interview was Friday past. The other candidate had been called for the final interview with CEO. I haven’t (yet) been contacted. My recruiter says the haven’t said yes or no to me. I’m devastated as I know that means I haven’t got the job and at best I’m the backup. Unless someone has been in a similar position and has some comfort to give me?

Once I was the final candidate … in similar circumstances number wise. I was so confused- does this mean I’m successful? Radio silence for 3 days. Turned out they didn’t think I was ready for the role but had potential and values they wanted in the organisation. They spent 3 days getting a new role signed off by trustees and drafting up a job description.

so don’t lose hope!

Thank you 🙏 I’m really clutching at straws unfortunately as i am so desperate to get an escape plan drawn up from my current job.

If the other candidate has been contacted and you haven’t, I wouldn’t get my hopes up. I am a PA and when we schedule interviews and contact preferred candidates we always contact our favourite first then send generic rejection email to everyone else. Fingers crossed for you though!

It could be that the other candidate has made them aware they are off on holiday shortly so they have rushed their interview through first- I’ve had this happen so don’t lose hope.

If you and one other have got to the final stage then you will have the same treatment as the other candidate - so you will be invited to meet the CEO. They might just have booked them in first because either the candidate or the CEO have some leave booked or other commitments that mean there is a lack of flexibility on either side. And even if you are the second choice... my dad has twice been the second candidate because something has fallen through for the preferred choice. Both times it took his career in brilliant directions and he's now retired on a final salary pension - the man earns more than me and he retired over 20 years ago! So second best sometimes just means second chance. I have everything crossed for you. Good luck!

I applied for a job where I had two interviews plus a third with the CEO. I later found out that someone had been through the whole process before me but the CEO didn’t like her so she didn’t get the job.

So fingers crossed she’s unlikeable!

The only thing is if it makes a difference- I haven’t been contacted yet the other person is literally being interviewed tonight

I’m slightly irritated why he wouldn’t just have a 10 min interview with us both to make sure he’s was getting the best person. Is it not weird to just move forward with one person?
